If JR told him that he is only GM in name and Ozzie will make all the decisions, then yes I do think he would have walked out or resigned a while ago..

 

I honestly think that KW is trying to give HIS moves all the time in the world to work out so he can satisfy himself..

If the scenario was:

 

KW has no authority right now to fire Guillen because of an edict from ownership,

 

Consequently, KW has no authority right now to force Guillen to follow his instructions (because he can't fire him for open defiance of KW's decisions), and

 

Guillen makes clear that he will not play Viciedo if he's called up, he'll bench the kid like he did last year, and maybe insult/run him down a bit for good measure

 

Then KW's hands are tied from above and below in the org.

Definitely. I wonder if the organization has made a similar mistakes since some of the prospects have come up and and failed almost to the point of being out of baseball.

Viciedo still needed to learn how to catch a baseball and it looks like he was better off working with the hitting coach in the minors. With Kenny signing Dunn there was no roster spot.

 

Too much is being read into Ozzie/KW and the roster. It's probably like most every other team. The GM supplies the players and lets the manager run the everyday team. I'm sure KW gets Ozzie's input in helping form the roster, like any GM would. The only problem I see is Ozzie being too loyal to veteran players who struggle. I can see giving them time to work it out but, at some point you have to try something new. It worked out well with Pierre but not so much with Dunn and Rios. I don't think Cashman and Epstein are telling Francona and Girardi who to play and who to bench. This season has stunk and everyone is looking for someone to blame. I blame the players for not palying to their capabilities.

Yeah, I think Cashman tells people who to play.

And we have seen him run Dunn and Rios out there anyway, no matter who is hot behind them or available.

My god. Do you know how much money they make?? How many years are left on their deals? They play. I hate it as well but that's baseball.

You really think Cashman was telling Joe Torre how to run his team? They may have had a consensus between the two but Cashman wasn't dictating anything.

In '05, Ozzie would have benched them.
