the "draft pick" strategy

This great pitching you say is how many games back and a .500 team not so great Porcello would be the 4th starter easy on the Sox. IMO.

Humber, Buehrle, EJax, Stewart, Danks & Floyd all have a better ERA in a Sox uniform this season than Porcello does right now. Peavy is only .05 higher. Where again would Porcello fit in the rotation?

Until the Sox are willing to piss off Bud Selig, or slotting is agreed to, they will be average at best in the draft. Boston routinely finishes with a better record and look at their prospects the past 5 or 6 years.

No one knows how it will turn out, but the CBA is up this offseason, and dealing with this issue in some way is at the top of Selig's list along with HGH testing.

I've never understood the players association's objection. Theoretically, slotting would free up more money for players who are in the union. Also, it would limit teams like Boston and the Yankees from lining up great prospects which should open up jobs on their teams, and they pay higher wages. Trading picks should also be allowed.

I agree the players union should have nothing to do with it.

Finishing with a mini-run (although an illusion and typical of Sox "non-competitive" teams this decade after tanking in Aug/early September) would be more beneficial (albeit limited!) for selling season ticket packages in 2012 compared to the nominal value of a slightly #11-18 1st round draft pick.

Is there much of a difference between batting Dunn or Rios cleanup? No, not really, but there's still a slightly better chance with one. With the future outlook of this team being quite grim, you have to take every little advantage you can.

Mitchell and Poreda weren't considered reaches. We picked both of them right at the area they should of have been selected.
