Thinking of buying this TV, Reviews?

Featured Replies

Bestbuy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insignia%26%23...customerreviews

I am currently living in a studio apartment, so the size is perfect (more than I need), the price is within my range, and I am thinking of purchasing this as soon as today.

My main uses: PS3 and watching sports.

I don't really know anything about TV's, which is why I am asking here. I have heard this one is fantastic, but I have also heard it has some problems with motion.

Any opinions?

It really depends on how serious you get about TVs. I think of mine about as much as I think about my toaster. I turn it on, there's a picture, works for me. I know someone that will spend weeks picking one out and gets rid of perfectly functioning TVs because of some new refresh rate or s***. We had an Insignia in our conference room, seemed to work just fine. The picture looked fine to me.

That TV sounds like it would serve you well for what you need it. The two things i look at when buying a TV are the refresh rate (has to be at least 240hz) and the contrast ratio (id like for it to be at least 10,000,000:1). So many times id walk into an electronics store and have a goof salesman try to sell me a 60 inch TV with only a 60hz refresh rate and a crappy contrast ratio, thinking ill bite because its a 60 inch screen, pssshhhhh! This nerd right here reads consumer reports! ;)

Thank you for your responses. Much Love

Insignia is Best Buy's "store" brand. We got 2 tube TV's that are both Insignia. They both still work but they show everything with a green tint. That started happening about a year after we bought them.

I don't know if their LCD TVs are better but personally I'm staying away from that brand.

Buy a TV from Amazon. No Tax and free delivery and disposal of the boxes and such. You'll save alot of money.

Just looked in your price range on Amazon. You can get a better brand than that for roughly the same price but saving 50+ dollars because of tax.

100% agreed, Amazon is really the way to go. In regards to brands, Insignia and Dynex are both house brands for Best Buy, they tend to look decent for a year, then they start to have issues quickly. I would check out these two (I have a Toshiba that I love):

LG

Toshiba (reviews say the sound is bad, which I have no problem with because I always use different speakers anyways).

Sharp

I'm a Samsung guy and have had great luck with several of their sets including both LCD's and Plasma's. I would say Panny, Sammy, Toshiba, LG's, Sonys have been the ones I have been exposed to the most, but I have a friend who swears by Vizio. All are on Amazon for the price range (500-600) that he was looking for.

Can't disagree with that at all, I went with Toshiba for a smaller dorm/room tv and love it. I really wanted a Samsung at the time of the purchase, but the Toshiba was onsale for 25% less than the Samsung, and the quality wasn't that big of a difference for what I was buying.

I bought a Panny Plasma (50in, 1080p) off my parents for my apartment this year and all 3 of my roommates love it. My parents have their own Panny Plasma and a super nice Sony LCD.

I ended up with a Vizio 55 inch LED ...the "LED of the year" according to CNET in 2010. Zero complaints. I thought it was a cheap brand, but it seems to be made of quality parts (not too plastic-y) and it's got an outstanding picture.

I believe they are now the most popular flat screen manufacturer or something like that. I wanst buying into Vizio at first but they get pretty good reviews.

I have been buying Vizio for a couple of years. Very happy with the brand.

FYI contrast ratio is a load of bull each company has their own definition of the term so while one might be a bigger number on a samsung doesn't mean it's better than a smaller ratio on another brand and so on.

I have a small Viz monitor / TV that has performed very well. I also like my Sony. But I'm not too critical about TVs, it just isn't that important.
