Damn, 2 people confirmed dead including a police officer and the gunman is still on the loose :(

I saw last week where Northern had their 5th shooting since their big incident recently.

Apparently the second person was the gunman.

This is just so sad. You send kids off to college, look at crime stats and such, hoping they will be safe.

Just to clarify, most of that has been OFF campus. There was a shooting at one of the dorms a couple years back in which a kid got shot in the leg (he was fine), but it's been all off campus stuff besides that in terms of crime issues. Not much the school can do about that, unfortunately, as it is a city issue.

 

In general though, people are just messed up. You can't assume absolutely safety anywhere anymore. I feel terrible for the police officer here, but am also glad this didn't get totally out of hand.

I receive the parent's alerts from U of I and at least once a week there is a bodily injury crime. With so many young adults around, I am not surprised.
