An interim Daniels-appointed replacement with a full special election shortly thereafter seems like it would be the best solution.

To be fair, at the end of the day, the result will be the same as whoever Daniels appoints.

That's not necessarily true.

Unless Daniels appointee decided not to run, no.

Do we elect individuals or parties?

We elect an individual from a party 99.99% of the time. There are very few independents around.

So in perfect conjunction with this thread, what should happen in IL with the bribe taking D who was endorsed by the party, including the governor after his tape asking for cash in an envelope came out?

Context? Unfamiliar with this case.

Derrick Smith:

Rep. Derrick Smith (D-Chicago) allegedly accepted a $7,000 cash bribe to write an official letter of support for a daycare center that he believed was seeking a state grant, according to the U.S. Justice Department. The arrest came following an undercover investigation, during which a person who reportedly works on Smith's political campaigns cooperated with the FBI.

He should be removed from office and replaced assuming he's found guilty, but this is a slightly different situation in that he wasn't found ineligible to have been on the ballot in the first place like in the Indiana case.

He is arrested and put on trial. If convicted, a D replaces him.

In Illinois? He should run for Governor.

Zing!

I think the House has to impeach him if found guilty. I believe that forces a special election IIRC.
