If someone like Mitchell and/or Thompson emerges as a Top 50 prospect, then KW will get 2013, too. And if Beckham, Morel, Viciedo, Sale and Addison Reed all look good and perform well, same thing. Jake Peavy gets paid $17 mil this year and has a $4 million buyout in October when his option is not picked up (and counting this for 2013 is silly). AJ Pierzynski is due $6 million this year. 17 + 4 + 6 = 27. Even if you want to count the $5 million or so that Danks's contract does extend, a couple million more for Beckham in arbitration and a $2.5 million raise for Floyd...if we just want to come back with the same salary next year, we're going to have to spend nearly $20 million.

No way KW would ever say (at least in public, maybe he might believe it in his mind) that the season is about developing. He's gonna say and possibly even think they have a chance to compete. So when the failure comes, he's going to look bad/delusional. The public perception (outside of us the SMARTEST BASEBALL FANS EVER) will be more failure on Kenny's part.
