This isn't exactly the newest of news but anyways...

Minor setback: Ricardo Nanita's spectacular 2003 season came to a close late last week, after X-rays revealed a fracture in the hook of the hamate bone on his right hand. The 14th-round draft pick in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft produced a .384 average in 185 at-bats for Great Falls in the Advanced Rookie Pioneer League, with five home runs and 37 RBIs.

Nanita hit for the cycle against Helena on July 28, but also set the Pioneer League record with a 30-game hitting streak. Nanita's streak was the longest in baseball until matched by St. Louis' Albert Pujols on Saturday.

Nanita's original injury was diagnosed as a contusion, causing him to miss five games. But he returned to the lineup early last week with a three-hit game and had one hit the next day, when he crumpled to the ground after taking a swing in the eighth.

Nanita is out 4-to-6 weeks but should be able to participate in the Instructional League in the offseason.

He joins Brian Anderson, the team's first-round draft pick, on the injured list. Anderson, hitting .388 with two home runs and 13 RBIs in 49 at-bats for Great Falls, had season-ending surgery on his right wrist on July 29th.

WTF was in the water this year for our draft picks?

f***!!

He thorws left-handed, so I guess it's good that he injured his right hand.

Aw f***, Nanita was doing great. The last thing we need is to have him get injured. This blows.

Damn..Nanita was tearing the cover off the ball. I guess Sweeney will be up there pretty damn quick now.

Either way, at least the guy was able to get experience at that level. I think we all know he will be in Kanny next year. Heck, Kanny should have a hell of an outfield next year.

Hell yea they should! :headbang With Anderson, Nanita, and maybe King, Kanny would have an awesome outfield. I think Kanny will be a lot better next year than they are this year because they'll probably add Schnurstein, McCarthy, Antoin Gray, the 3 OFer's mentioned before, etc.

I hate to see these good prospects going down with injuries. They need playing time to develope. Oh well, better now than early next season.
