I wasn't looking at it from a financial perspective, but if someone signs you for $126M, then it could be reasonably concluded that they expect you to play a big role in what they're trying to accomplish. When that time finally came in 2010, they felt that the team was better off with Zito at home on his couch watching their postseason run. They didn't even bother burying him somewhere deep in the back of their bullpen where the sun doesn't shine.
