Nice! Rios or him could have won it, happy either way.

At least Sox players can win the awards from an irrelevant source that isn't official. (Dunn in '12, Beckham's ROY award in 2009)

As opposed to the completely relevant and official Jeter for Gold Glove

Maybe it's not "official", but The Sporting News has been issuing this award about 40 years longer than MLB has so it's definitely relevant.

whoopdie f'n do!

Sweet, he gone.

Still doesn't mean anyone recognizes it as the official one. All I am saying is, I can't name a single award winner of any Sporting News award, other than Beckham's 2009 win, and obviously Dunn's 2012 win. But I can tell you who won the majority of the recent MVP and Cy Young awards that the MLB hands out annually.

Who were the MLB Comeback Players of the Year 2 years ago?

don't look it up

EDIT: I did, for verification purposes. One of them PITCHED for the Sox this year, so there's a hint.

oh f***ing COME ON man. You are making a big deal of MLB and Sporting News Comback Player of the Year. Atleast respond. COME ON

Can you win it two years in a row? I guess not. Dunn might be eligible to win it again in 2014.

Come back to what? From record breaking awful to merely bad.

Would anybody be sad if the big fella was traded? Not me. What about Dunn for ARod and the Yankees pay all but 1 mill of ARod's salary?? We'd have a third baseman as stopgap and would be able to have Dan Johnson be DH.

Liriano won it 2 years ago. Thome won it in 2006.

And the years in between?

Comeback Player of the Year is like winning the NIT tournament. Sure, you're happy for them, but nobody really cares.

Why anyone is even uttering the words "comeback player" in re: to someone who hits...what.... under .220? GTFO.

I didn't speak to the awards popularity, or if anyone cared, except when distinguishing between the real MLB awards, and Sporting News awards. Because regardless of MVP, Cy Young, ROY, or CPOTY, no one pays attention to whoever Sporting News deems is deserving, which was my point.

People pay as much attention to the Sporting News' choice for Comeback Player of the Year as they do MLB's Comeback Player of the Year, which is to say nobody cares, which was my point.

  • 2 weeks later...

It was pleasing to see the 41 homers with the RBI's and lots of walks, but it was all tempered with a million strike outs and a BA of .204. I think Adam Dunn is an asset to the Sox but hopefully he can cut down on the K's and hit for more average in 2013. Maybe a .250 BA?

Mercy. I hope he wins it again next year.

If he gets back to his 2009 numbers and V.Martinez doesn't go nuts, he has a shot.
