best white sox commercial

definitely sandy, carlos, and royce clayton making firework noises

Lol.. you know im going to agree with that... That commerical was great, and im thinking it could boost Carlos into the movie business when his baseball career is done.

:D

Congo line

Definitely the one where Rob Gallas was dragged screaming out of the ballpark, beaten with sharp objects, thrown into the trunk of a car, driven to a remote forest preserve, taken out of the trunk, beaten some more, tied to a tree, covered with poison ivy and left to be eaten by West Nile-ridden mosquitoes.

Oh, sorry, that's the commercial I'M writing....oopsie, my bad....

:P

What kind of commercials do you guys want? Just curious since everybody complains. And don't say "Not Crappy One's" that's not an answer :P

I'm gonna go with when the little girl is like Oh-E-Oh and then the rest of the family says Magglio.

I'm voting for the Falstaff girl. Of course this was in 1972. If you want a more current bad commercial, does anyone remember Robin Ventura and Barry Jones for a clothing store (Irv's? Manny's?) in 1990. Hilarious.

Any thread that starts..."The best White Sox commercial is..." should ALWAYS be in green.

I work in advertising and I have to say the White Sox commercials are awful. I never realized that so many fans were critical of the way the team markets itself both on this site and at WSI.

The reason they are awful is because they are transparent. The best advertising gets the message across about the product in a indirect way (usually, but not always through humor and being entertaining).

The Sox ads are blatenly direct and unfunny. "White Sox Baseball is....$1 Hot Thursday, O-E-O Magglio, and Jose-jose-jose, Fireworks, Buerhle's cool and Colon's heat, etc, etc, etc.

Anyway, given this I think I might take on a self-imposed freelance project. When I have some spare time, I'll concept a series of spots - story board them - and post them to the site for the forum to critique.

Can't say when this will happen so keep your eyes open.

I too work in advertsing, and couldn't agree with you more. The entire Sox marketing strategy is misdirected, patronizing, and, more often than not, downright stupid.

I'm in if you ever want to make it a group freelance project :P :bringit

I still say that the worst was the "Line Shot" campaign in 1997 after we got Albert Belle.

Frank, Robin and Belle in a faux Summer Action Flick.

Tim Kasurinsky, from Second City, as the Euro-Baddie with a Bomb.

"If Matt Karchner's fastball falls below 90mph...BOOOOOOM!!"

He kidnaps Ventura...

Bo Jackson is their driver, Jenny McCarthy is the Mysterious girl..

Thats right Kids...Come to Comiskey Park for Guns, Bombs, Kidnapping and Murder!

Gallas should have fired after that!

Sounds good. When I get the time I'll work up some strategies and send 'em your way. If you have time do the same. We'll likely come to some sort of agreement and can go from there. This could be cool. :cheers

BTW, like the Lebowski sig.

We already had this same topic on the off topic board earlier in the summer and everybody liked the Konerko and Hudson ESPN commercial. "Isn't it weird..." I love that commercial, but it's not really a Sox commercial.

Ribbie- I kinda liked those Belle, Ventura, Frank commercials. Of course, I was a kid so I just thought they were cool. Maybe that's who they were targeting and that's why you didn't like them.

Who can NOT like the Magglio Ordonez Pepsi Half Price Tuesday commercial from 2001!!! Maggs looked totally enthused to be in that commercial!

line shot! definately takes the cake. but the best line was in 2000 "the kids can play" that was the 2nd year they used it but it was true.
