I don't have a problem with change if it's improving the team. I think Danks isn't very good, but I won't get bent out of shape over it. I'm just amazed by his popularity.

I dont think any of these guys were strengths or even depth last year. Septimo never recovered from that bomb he gave up in Boston, Heath barely pitched, Omogrosso was meh, I dont even remember Marinez pitching.

 

Santiago, Jones, Reed, Veal at the end, Axelrod here and there. That was the depth.

 

Omogrosso pitched some very important innings last year...where you were surprised Ventura had such confidence in him.

 

Same with Septimo, before the Gonzalez homer.

For a guy who is older than Gordon Beckham and has a career .560 OPS, Jordan Danks gets an extreme amount of love around here. How does one conclude he is better than Wise?

I don't know. Wise has proven to be pretty darn solid off the bench. Knows how to handle a stick, can play all 3 positions in the outfield, solid baserunner. Danks has some tools but in reality he'll never be anything more then a Dwayne Wise anyway. And this is coming from a guy that likes Danks.

Omogrosso did not pitch important innings last year. Every game he pitched in september, except 2, were losing efforts. He was a roster expansion callup, and he pitched mopup late in games that the Sox were losing. And in the games he pitched in July for his short time up, he gave up 3 runs in 6.1 innings.

 

Septimo was also used as mopup in september, although he was given even less rope and was only allowed to see 1 batter at a time after he blew up at Boston, and even then he was suspect.

 

These guys were not the reason the Sox bullpen was considered good and deep, they were roster filler at the end of the season.

That's because the team lost MOST of its games in SEPT.

 

There were a number of games that were close or that were tied or we were only down no more than a couple that he was appearing in at key times...to the point that you were surprised Ventura was using him then, instead of some of our other relievers.
