April 17, 201313 yr He's been terrific, I hope he can keep it up. It really is an interesting role he's playing. Now if they can figure out a way to get the real Veal back on track...
April 17, 201313 yr He's proven he can get through the lineup once. I have my doubts about more. This is cool though, the "modern bullpen" is so dumb and hierarchical, it's good to see it being used to solve problems creatively as they come up.
April 17, 201312 yr Chuck Garfien @ChuckGarfien 4m In 9.2 innings, #WhiteSox reliever Hector Santiago has given up 1 measly hit. Opponents are batting .037, tops in the majors.
April 18, 201312 yr If Axelrod continues to do okay, I'll be all hunky dory about Hector dominating in strange bullpen usage
April 18, 201312 yr Santiago has really good stuff for a guy that nobody outside of White Sox fans ever heard of. Command can be iffy but he should have a long career in the majors as a back of the rotation guy or a reliever.
April 18, 201312 yr QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) Santiago has really good stuff for a guy that nobody outside of White Sox fans ever heard of. Command can be iffy but he should have a long career in the majors as a back of the rotation guy or a reliever. I think his upside is higher than that but we shall see.
April 18, 201312 yr His upside is Johan Santana-Lite. His downside is back end starter/long man/middle reliever.
April 18, 201312 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 03:00 AM) His upside is Johan Santana-Lite. His downside is back end starter/long man/middle reliever. WTF?
April 18, 201312 yr Author QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 08:17 AM) WTF? Yeah, that is just homerism right there.
April 18, 201312 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) Yeah, that is just homerism right there. If I even wanted to stretch it, Santiago has the repertoire to become a very deadly pitcher if he can keep improving his control, but there's zero reason to compare him to Johan. Johan had a better fastball and one of the best changeups we've ever seen, Santiago is going to be more of a breaking ball/screwball pitcher for the offspeed stuff.
April 18, 201312 yr I've read two threads this morning and apparently we have two mini, potential Johan clones? This is still soxtalk right?
April 18, 201312 yr QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) I've read two threads this morning and apparently we have two mini, potential Johan clones? This is still soxtalk right? LOL these are my thoughts as well.
