Hawkins leaves game after diving catch

Featured Replies

#WhiteSox top prospect Courtney Hawkins left the game in the 4th after a great diving catch to end the 3rd. Left the field on his own power.

At least someone in our organization can play some defense, besides Alexei Ramirez.

Hawkins, or Jared Mitchell?

Both...although Mitchell's arm is weak.

And Thompson can play some D as well.

Sorry, I was responding to the thread title, bringing up how our last promising top OF prospect also hurt himself making an awesome catch (or maybe attempting, I can't remember if Mitchell caught it).

There are quite a few prospects in the org noted for defense.

Anyway, W-S is saying Hawkins is day-to-day, but they won't get into further detail just now.

I'm pretty sure some scout said Thompson was the best defensive OF in our minors last year. And that was including Jordan Danks.

Sorry, were we just talking outfielders?

Thompson and JorDanks definitely considered plus out there. Mitchell has gotten good reviews for range and glove, but not arm. Walker apparently also has big range and a good glove, and a better arm than Mitchell, but Walker doesn't have the route instincts yet (or didn't last I read anything about him - could have changed by now). Hawkins is raw of course. Haddow is supposedly a solid glove and a plus arm.

That's about it for OF guys I know of, defensively.

Shoulder strain. Will be evaluated in NC and later Chicago.

There goes his future conversion to being a pitcher :)

Left shoulder. He's still got the backup plan.

Maybe this injury will cause him to have limited range-of-motion in his left shoulder and subsequently, fix the huge ass hitch in his swing.

Buddy Bell is on the Score. Said Hawkins will get checked out in Chicago this week. Expected to be 3-4 week injury.

What a week

  • 3 weeks later...

Hawkins should be back at Winston-Salem in about 10 days.

He's going to Arizona next week, per Buddy Bell.
