CLEVELAND -- White Sox left-handed relief pitcher David Purcey will miss the remaining six games of the season with a strained ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow.

The 31-year-old Purcey does not need surgery as of now, and the injury is expected to heal with rest.

Purcey was 1-1 with a 2.13 ERA in 24 games this season. He struck out 23 and walked 17 in 25 1/3 innings. He started the season with Triple-A Charlotte, where he compiled an 0-2 record with a 3.03 ERA and three saves in 26 games.

His last appearance was against the Tigers on Friday, when he allowed six hits and three earned runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Largest collective yawn in Soxtalk history?

Thankfully we don't have a catch-all thread so no one misses this important news.

You must not remember the departure and return and departure of Angel Sanchez

He was better than Thornton this year. Solid job, great ERA.

Ahh yes. You're right. I didn't remember that. I don't think there was even a yawn at that one.

Dewayne Wise was on the roster this year.

Yeah, I'm just gonna disagree with that. Purcey's lucky his ERA wasn't 4.50 or 5. Guys simply don't get away with stranding 88% of base runners over the course of a full season.

I mean, he did walk tons of guys but he had flashes of brilliance

He would be the #1 target for major regression out of the pen next year IMO.

I think our definition of brilliant is different from one another
