January 4, 201412 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2014 -> 04:22 PM) Quite right I am sure. Reason they still have blackout rules, so the city/state gets more tax revenue for their investment.
January 4, 201412 yr Seriously though, politicians would be happy to go after the NFL if they actually blacked out a playoff game, and that's a fight the league doesn't want.
January 4, 201412 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2014 -> 04:56 PM) Seriously though, politicians would be happy to go after the NFL if they actually blacked out a playoff game, and that's a fight the league doesn't want. Theoretically, this rule makes more fans go to the games. This is the only way the city/state gets revenue through the taxes on tickets and concession sales. Some stadia actually give all of the parking and a percentage of the concessions to the city/state. Government benefits from people in the seats not at home.
January 4, 201412 yr Unless people can't do math, that amount is a pittance compared to the amount the NFL takes. That said...people who can't do math is a pretty good explanation for most of these stadium deals.
January 4, 201412 yr Vinateri excepted, with the way the Colts are playing, it would have been better if the game had been blacked out.
