Steve Stone to be on the Score

Featured Replies

interesting how Stone got blocked from going to The Game 87.7. I wasnt aware a radio station could excercise that kind of move

Stoney says that Hawk is going to be on board for talking sabermetrics this year. That would be a great gimmick if Hawk just created his own sabermetric once a week and gave a short description of it.

"You wanna talk sabermetrics, I'll tell ya this guy has one of the greateast (Insert Hawk's Sabermetric) in the game. this guy, 85% of balls hit into the field of play are accompanied with the crack of his bat resonating throughout the entire Stadium. Infielders get bug eyed when they hear that sound, cuz they know they gotta be on their toes when they've got bullets like that coming attem. Mercy.

And maybe he is already doing this, but in more of a formal way, so everyone can prepare for it. Like if it you knew it was coming every 7th inning.

Hawk will correctly use a sabermetric stat in a game, and soxtalk will cease to exist

Why did Stone get blocked?

He was between a rock and a hard place.

At least now he can grow moss from no more rolling.

Why did Stone get blocked?

This is from the article:

Before agreeing to the Score deal, which was negotiated by agent Steve Mandell, Stone was heavily courted by WGWG LP 87.7, the new Tribune Broadcasting sports/talk station known as The Game 87.7 FM. He was blocked from accepting the offer by CBS Radio bosses, according to multiple sources, after the Score exercised its right as the White Sox flagship station to veto his work for a direct competitor.

Makes sense. I've often been surprised how Inside the NFL for HBO had different station personalities join.

For all the grief given to Hawk about advanced metrics, Stone has a pretty similar view. I cannot recall he being dissed by it.

Stone gives sabermetric stats their due when he can. He doesn't dismiss them, make up his own unquantifiable statistic and then go on MLB Network to argue with a sabermetric friendly analyst about it.

Really? I have never heard him site one. I have heard him rip them on outlets other than White Sox telecasts as well, and when he is talking about starting pitchers, he does emphasize wins.

You know hawk was right in that whole snafu. Poor guy was set up to look dumb. All he's ever advocated is that stats don't paint the whole picture.

He set himself up with TWTW. That was all him, reinforced by him

if the sox had good offensive sabermetrics, hawk and stoney would love sabermetrics.

I love sabermetrics

Haha for sure. But deep down we all know what he means. Stats are only half the man.

Do you honestly think if Rick Hahn were to sit and talk advanced stats with Hawk that his eyes wouldn't glaze over and he'd walk away and start pouring the scotch? You aren't going to untrain his "70 years in baseball" in one speech.

Isn't that how Hawk reacts to everything nowadays? Hell, one of his eyes is on perma-glaze now
