March 27, 201511 yr I like how Paulino and Belisario are listed as "significant losses", no, that is what usually happened when they pitched.
March 27, 201511 yr Going over this made me feel even better than I did before. Aside from Semien, we really lost nothing of substantial consequence. It was straight upgrades all over the board. I don't know if this year will be the year, but I'll be damned if I thought we'd be able to get this much better this fast while mortgaging so little of the future.

March 27, 201511 yr I love that Hahn didn't just rely on splashy moves. A lot of those claims and minor league deals could pay off.
March 27, 201511 yr QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 06:59 PM) Obviously devastating injuries can happen but if we won 75 games I still think we'll be in a better position this time next year. Very exciting time. Totally disagree. Another sub .500 season where ticket sales erode again and interest is lost is going to mean another payroll cut.
March 27, 201511 yr QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 07:24 PM) Another payroll cut? I am pretty sure the payroll went up this year. Regardless, I don't think the 5-10 million dollars in payroll is the difference between a playoff team and a team that stays home in October. The core will still be there and be cost effective. It'll be one year closer to getting out from under John Danks. Obviously you want to win but it's not like an 81-81 team shuts the window of contention. "Another" a-la what happened prior to last year. IMO, they made ~$30 million last year and added $20 million in payroll. They shoot to be profitable, not break even. Last year's team saw about a $10 million erosion in revenue outside of the extra MLB money. If we see another $10 million erosion in revenue this year, we're going to see something similar in a salary cut. That doesn't just mean Samardzija is gone, that means we have to move Cabrera or someone like that as well.
