April 14, 201511 yr Albert and Bernard have both just met Cheryl. Cheryl tells them both that her birthday is one of ten possible dates: May 15 May 16 May 19 June 17 June 18 July 14 July 16 August 14 August 15 August 17 Cheryl then tells only Albert the month and only Bernard the day. Albert states that he knows that Bernard does not know the month. Bernard states that based on Albert's statement, he does now know the month. Albert states that based on Bernard's statement, he now knows the day. What is Cheryl's birthday?

Albert states that he knows that Bernard does not know the month. -From Bernard's PoV, this eliminates months that contain a day unique to only that month (May because of the 19, June because of the 18) July 14 July 16 August 14 August 15 August 17 Bernard states that based on Albert's statement, he does now know the month. -From Albert's PoV, this eliminates days that are shared among the remaining months (July 14 and August 14) July 16 August 15 August 17 Albert states that based on Bernard's statement, he now knows the day. -Because Albert was told the month and he must now know the day, the only answer can come from the month with one option remining. What is Cheryl's birthday? July 16 I did figure it out on my own, but you should've changed the names so we couldn't Google it.
April 14, 201511 yr A friend of my just posted about this on FB. His daughter is in grade school and they are giving them questions like this.
