Along with Melky, we've got Flowers, Ramirez, Micah, Alexei (moving up) and Eaton all in the bottom quartile of everyday hitters OPS-wise. Gillaspie (despite the horrid defense) looks practically good compared to the rest of the bottom-dwellers statistically. Then you've got Avi's BABIP thing and LaRoche's can't hit lefties thing and Jose's impossible bar or standard to live up to (he needs to be a Top 10 hitter in MLB for the White Sox to compete, not 40-50ish). The power will come back. exactly, a 300 avg, getting on base, moving the lead off man over or driving him in, setting up for the teams #3, 4 and 5 hitters. that is what i thought Melky can do or provide. cabiness42 Posted May 15, 2015 Share Posted May 15, 2015 It's still early, but with LaRoche having a .364 OBP, Garcia having a .355 OBP and Melky having a .304 OBP, if those numbers don't change it may soon be time to consider moving one of the other two up to 2nd in the order and dropping Melky to 5th. And yes, I'm well aware that LaRoche and Garcia are not "high contact" guys that you like batting second, but Jose needs more baserunners on in front of him.
