I really don't mind Melky having fun. But he took it to clown status vs. Kansas City. It really made it seem like he didn't care about anything but Melky having a good time. He hugged everybody and everybody on the Royals hugged back while laughing as they kicked our ass three straight (again). I mean at some point get pissed and beat the Royals once in a while. The season series record against KC has an affect on the Sox WC status. You can't get owned by one team like that and expect to make the WC.

The Sox refuse to compete against teams like the Royals, basically against all teams in the division. They come out and what will be will be. Melky's behavior doesn't help set a tone of competition. Guys like Danks and Sale. They get after it and compete. It's about fighting and getting the most out of your ability or your at bats if you are a position player. Or fielding and baserunning intently. Having your heads in the game. Melky acting like a clown sets back the competitive nature of our team.

greg lost a bet a while back and now he can only post here if it's about the Royals. Sometimes he has to make some big stretches, but you can't fault him for trying. He just wants to post.

Craig Biggio is what? Top 5 all time in doubles? How many times do you remember him showboating after hitting one? Zero. Because he has too much RESPECT for the GAME. That's why he's in the hall of fame and Melky is a roided up clown.

 

 

"Gritty spark plug" These are the first 3 words of Craig Biggio's HOF plaque inscription, why? Because he took the game seriously, showed up to work everyday ready to give his all for the TEAM and the GAME, gritty spark plugs don't stir imaginary pansy drinks they just swat two baggers every f***ing day with their head down, never looking for extra attention.

 

And to your second point: Melky's the only one who makes a spectacle of himself while stirring the drink. The others do it with far more class.

 

 

So.. You like Craig Biggio. I don't understand the correlation with my original question. A lot of people show up to a job that they're good at and don't enjoy their time doing it because they're too busy "working hard" and being a "gritty spark plug." I'd rather enjoy my job, work hard while enjoying it, and maybe have an inside joke or two. I was just wondering if there was a story that I had missed behind Melky's sequence because it looks like FUN and I think FUN is very RESPECTFUL of a GAME and it's a NEAT and INTERESTING quirk about this TEAM that hasn't been extremely interesting this year.

 

I suppose you didn't like this much either? Such utter contempt for the integrity of the holy sport of baseball. For Shame. We shall all become Angels fans now in support of the disrespect they encountered.

i cant find the post, but i asked this question a while back in another thread. The answer that I got was because of this parody video of Prince and his basketball team of Shirts against the blouses. His basketball team were the underdogs, and when they scored a winning blow it was the blouses that won. You'll see Melky doing the EYE thing just like Prince at the end of the video, and the thing with the arms is his imitating a blouse.

I can see it both ways. Melky doesn't bother me.

 

But I do understand Kal's point and I agree in a way... It's annoying when certain players have to make a spectacle EVERY time they make a play.

It's probably really hard to pin down that index and middle finger peace sign with the eye thing.
