November 11, 201510 yr There's been a lot of discussion on social media the last few days, about Tim Anderson becoming the team's starting shortstop in 2016 on Opening Day. Not as much here, where there are some very knowledgeable posters, but in some cases it's been said. Here's the quick docket of reasons why he's not ready. Feel free to send this to any of your friends who might be suggesting it.
November 11, 201510 yr If Tim Anderson is intentionally our opening day SS, it shows that the rebuild is back on.
November 11, 201510 yr Steamer projects Anderson a 0.7 WAR in about half the playing time it projects Alexei a 0.9 WAR for 2016.
November 11, 201510 yr Author QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) Steamer projects Anderson a 0.7 WAR in about half the playing time it projects Alexei a 0.9 WAR for 2016. Steamer projections for minor leaguers are borderline useless.
November 11, 201510 yr Anderson also had a .391 BABIP this year, and while he seems like a guy that could sustain a higher than average BABIP, that is still way too high. Hopefully he can cut down on the Ks a bit more.
November 11, 201510 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) If Tim Anderson is intentionally our opening day SS, it shows that the rebuild is back on. and the rebuild will last for awhile then as well
November 11, 201510 yr Great writeup and could not agree more. Despite the hole at SS, Anderson is not the solution, yet. Would rather go with a stop gap for '16 and see where Anderson is at after the '16 season is over. I'm excited about him but I can wait until he develops more.
November 11, 201510 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) If Tim Anderson is intentionally our opening day SS, it shows that the rebuild is back on. It would be very disheartening to see.
November 11, 201510 yr Only a dumb person would suggest Anderson would be the shortstop next year. It's simply absurd. End discussion.
November 12, 201510 yr Author QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 05:19 PM) Only a dumb person would suggest Anderson would be the shortstop next year. It's simply absurd. End discussion. Well, there are apparently a lot of dumb Sox fans, because it's been suggested by quite a few out there. Not many on SoxTalk though.
November 12, 201510 yr considering how little baseball he played before junior college, agree 110 percent.
