  1. If Ozzie prefers Terrero over Sweeney, then those age-old conspiracies are going to start flowing again.
  2. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 14, 2007 -> 04:06 AM) How do you do it? You pick up the phone, dial and say, "Hello there, partner." I think you'd have to be really stupid to think that Dye was going to repeat his 06 numbers. He'd be a closer bet for 05 numbers, which are good but not great. KW shocked the Sox world with McCarthy's trade; he should've done the same with Dye and Crede, IMO, but definitely Dye because the return value would've been significant. KW He's just a tick below Gavin Floyd in the Arizona League KW tried to balance both competing and rebuilding for the future during the offseason. That doesn't work in this day and age with big contracts. We went from having one of the more talented teams in the AL to closer to the middle of the pack.
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 14, 2007 -> 04:01 AM) I thought about this long and hard at the game today, and came to the best conclusion. Our hitters need to be better. But seriously, that is not only the most realistic option, but probably the best option as well. As it stands right now, one player isn't going to save this team. It doesn't matter if you put A-Rod in the middle of the lineup, it still doesn't change the fact that our 1B, 2B, RF would still not be hitting a lick, and it just so happens are 1B, 2B, and RF all bat in the top half of the lineup, i.e. major contributors. There is no quick fix right now. This is the team we have. It's the core. Good or bad, it's sink or swim with the basic lineup we have. Exactly, there's too many people struggling right now to just put a band-aid on things by making one acquisition. The damage was done by not making a few moves to spark the offense, and now we have to just hope the core offensive players can get it done. So many of them seem to have lacked significant bat speed since the start of the 2nd half last year. QUOTE(BobDylan @ May 14, 2007 -> 04:02 AM) No. If Ichiro could be had for a reasonible price, there's no reason the White Sox shouldn't jump at it. This means any prospects not involving the names Sweeney, Danks, Gonzalez or Masset . Anything outside that, I think the White Sox have to take the option into serious consideration. It could also give the Sox a heads up in offering him a new contract. The problem is that a lead-off hitter isn't the White Sox most pressing need right now. Erstad has been adequate enough--and unforutnately one of their better offensive players--and the team sorely lacks power. Konerko, Dye and Crede are absolutely awful thus far. Fact is, the offensive solution is already within the team. The question is will those players produce? But I'll always be giddy at the idea of having Ichiro in a White Sox uniform. The guy is a Class-A ball player. Great defender, great base runner, great lead-off hitter. If they think they have a legitimate chance at bringing him back for a few more years, I hope it happens. If someone's giving you talent in return for Masset, you should have no problem with that trade. The only untouchable in our entire organization should be Danks.
  4. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:58 AM) I'd definitely take either of them over Crede pops up. I've never had faith in him as a player. I've always thought last year was a fluke. I'm not surprised to see him revert. I'm looking for speed in our lineup. Contact. Not bumbling sluggers, which Crede isn't good enough to be considered. As for Willits: he'll be twenty six this month. That's young. On paper, Lee for Podsednik is one of the dumbest moves in the history of sports, too. Lee for Pods was a horrible, horrible trade. The only saving grace was that it freed up payroll. The only way we should have traded Crede in the offseason is if we could get a MLB caliber player who could be a cornerstone of the franchise for the next 5 years. I'd be content if I never have to hear about another Angels prospect on this site again. They seem rather overrated.
  5. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:49 AM) ...and when he gets buried by Guillen by sitting him on the bench, people are going to b**** about him not playing everyday and how it would be better to send him down. It'll be just like Brian Anderson. Even when Thome returns, Sweeney should continue to start. When Pods is ready to return in 2009, then we can send Sweeney down if he hasn't earned the spot.
  6. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:52 AM) You know, I wonder if Crede for Willits straight-up could've been done in the offseason. I'd have done it. Or Crede + something for Willits and Figgins. Dye to the Dodgers. Dye to anyone would've been good. This team is too slow. Period. Konerko can't be moved for political reasons; Thome can't be moved for his NTC. Crede for Willits would have been one of the dumbest trades in the history of sports. Willits isn't young....and trust me when I say we want nothing to do with Chone. He's one of the more overrated players in baseball. We need less grinders, and more skilled players.
  7. QUOTE(greg775 @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:44 AM) Why does Sweeney get a free pass from everybody for his lousy at bat today with the bases loaded against DeLaRosito Stiffmeister? I like Sweeney, but if he launches a double there instead of ending the inning with the bases loaded, we probably get our heads out of our butts and win the game. The Royals suck. Not winning all three is an atrocity and shows again why it's going to be tough to play with Detroit and Cleveland. In this tough division we need to win all our home games against KC, truly a minor league team. With our injuries, Kansas City has just as good of an offense as we do right now in terms of talent. We could have easily lost all three games this series....be happy with the series win, and move on to the next series. It doesn't matter though, because if our offense continues to struggle, we have no prayer this season.
  8. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:20 AM) I think Fathom likes to raise peoples hackles with crazy statements. Tad is on his bad list this week. Tadahito is a good secondbaseman who can most certainly contribute in a positive way. The whole offense is down right now. Did you conveniently miss the part where I said it would be a one day break for Iguchi? Iguchi's been on my s*** list almost all year due to terrible at-bats and pathetic defense.
  9. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:08 AM) I very much believe Ryan will stick around. Don't be so sure, Ozzie's comments after today almost make it seem like he's coming up with any bulls*** reason he can think of to keep Terrero on the team. It's going to get very ugly around here if Sweeney does get sent down.
  10. Within this article, Ozzie states that Uribe can't be a #2 hitter because he strikes out too much. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Well, anyone want to guess who had 114 and 110 strike outs the last two years, and which player had 77 and 82. There's also another article stating how Terrero pinch running on Saturday night was proof he had to be on the team. Not like Ozzie didn't have any other options on the bench (cough Ozuna cough).
  11. The only thing Ozzie did wrong with the lineup today is try Toby Hall at first base during ST. Besides that, he has little options on the bench. The talent level just isn't there right now.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2007 -> 02:42 AM) LOL. Yeah, I am sure its not Konerko, Dye, Thome's injury, Iguchi, or Crede's offense costing us games, it is the 16 ABs in 30 something games by the back up catcher It has nothing to do with wins/losses. It has everything to do with people thinking back-up catcher wasn't an important position. After today, we're averaging 4.1 hits against the 9 starting lefty pitchers we've faced this year. Thankfully, Toby Hall will be able to play 1B though.
  13. Joe Morgan, who has never said a superlative about any non-minority in baseball, proclaimed Gary Sheffield to be the most feared hitter in the entire major leagues. He spent a good 5 minutes saying how great he is during the first inning tonight.
  14. It's funny reading this thread to see how many people thought the loss of Hall wouldn't be a big deal. 0 for 16 later by Molina....I wonder if they still think a back-up catcher who can hits lefties wouldn't benefit this offense?
  15. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ May 13, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) in my opinion, we never had a shot to go to the playoffs this season with the offseason moves that were made, so maybe that contributes to my current optimism. The division is too tough and we didn't improve enough. However, I do think now we have a chance to stay in the race most of the season and it will be at least exciting this year. I figured we might be 8-9 games back at this point and a couple games under. Fair enough, I was confused at first, cause I always thought you were pessimistic with things.
  16. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 13, 2007 -> 09:04 PM) nope. they wanted him to be CF this year. Gave him the job. He didn't hit. replaced him with Hunter Pence, who is their CF of future. Burke will play second there next season after Biggio gets 3000 hits and retired. but he blasted the team when he got sent down Friday. might be available. I was watching Ken Rosenthal yesterday, and he said the whole CF stuff and that he was the leader in the clubhouse.
  17. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ May 13, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) this team is over .500 reading this thread is really depressing. this team is winning series despite its offensive woes, so obviously the sky isn't falling I just can't understand so much negativity when the team has a single bad loss after four straight wins Well, if our starting pitching can have an ERA around 3 all season, there will be a lot of us eating crow. It doesn't matter though....we're barely over .500, and there's two terrific teams in our division. We have to play significantly better than .500 ball in order to have a chance to make the playoffs.
  18. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 13, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) burke just got sent to the minors. blocked in Houston by biggio. think he could be a good young infielder. They want him to become a CF for next year. I don't think they'll trade him.
  19. The Indians are having no problems hitting Cy Gaudin.
  20. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) I feel like I've said the same damn thing all season long. "If we can go five hundred on this road trip here... If we can go five hundred in this next stretch..." When the hell is this team going to make a that puts them above five hundred? I don't want an answer to that question. I just hate the Cubs so much, and to get swept by them would be terrible. Even going 1-2 there would be fine, as sad as that sounds. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:57 PM) I love the fact that Dye and Iguchi are playing like they are in a contract year. Well, Dye to me seems just like he is struggling, but Iguchi looks as if he has degressed in every aspect of the game. Any good 2B on the market? 2B is the easiest position to find a decent player at. If it's not Chase Utley (and Polanco is damn good also), then every 2B is similar.
  21. The Yanks are going to make Danks throw like 120 pitches just to get thru 5 innings.
  22. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) Are they changing the rule that requires the other team to bat. Ha, thanks for the laugh! If things keep up against LHP being so bad, I'm all for giving Fields a chance to come up and DH against them.
  23. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) this season's offense has been disgusting...
  24. 15 hits total so far between the Sox and their three highest minor league teams. Adam Russell did horrible today. If we can go 3-3 in our next 6 games, I will be thrilled beyond belief.
  25. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) Don't make fun of my disability Tad can play areal good 2base and that's a fact. But, all good players can make an error once in awqhile. I think you are letting all the negative stuff get in the way here. serenity now actually kind of works I couldn't disagree more, but we each have our own opinion.
