QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 12:00 PM) Homeland's best episode maybe ever. That's saying something. What a fantastic episode. Quinn is the best character the show. Now that Justified is off the air, I'll have to find a new candidate for "best character on television" to replace Boyd Crowder. Quinn is up there.

    I remember when SS2k5 was SS2k4.
  3. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 05:38 PM) This can be said of many past presidents...and there are a multitude of reasons why we don't allow it. Something that should be done to congressmen, senators, judges, and every other public servant, too. In Minnesota, judges must retire once they hit 70. I like that rule.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2015 -> 11:40 PM) That game was extremely dissappointing. Indiana can play whenever they want to and they stopped tonight. That's what's so frustrating. When the offense is clicking, they can take on any defense. But then out of nowhere they'll just be unable to run anything. There is no denying we've improved under Wilson. There's actual B1G talent on the team. The next step is depth. And the defense really has improved, but they'll still give up the big plays that undo all their other good work. I guess being frustrated with inconsistency is an improvement over being resigned to suckitude.
  5. Since the resident fans are making statements... Hahahaha Indiana. If I don't laugh I'll cry. Make a bowl this year and it's a successful season. Still have games against Maryland and Purdue to get to 6 wins, but come on, today was brutal. Getting Howard back will help. And while I love the up tempo pace in general, it drives me nuts on fourth downs. Always seems like they're running a play before the entire offense is really on the same page, and it winds up with the running back on his ass in the backfield.
  6. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) Cell phones service. There's a difference between hidden fees and literally having no idea what a procedure will cost, like in medical care.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) yeah, my father retired as an attorney a few years back. He did quite well, but he was clear with me in my high school / college years that he wouldn't recommend the field, and it only got worse later. He would tell me in the last decade or two that it was nearly impossible to make partner anywhere anymore, and even just getting a job in private law was very tough. Which is odd when you think of how litigious society has become, but apparently (as you said) there was just a huge wave of law school grads added to the system. [b[A lot of lawyers find corner market jobs now. Like FBI, or contract work with firms that specialize in surge needs.[/b] I was lucky enough to find a job with a law firm, but I've learned litigation isn't for me. I've looked at energy trading and renewable energy site development, but those can be hard to break into. Point is, all that is made difficult because of the amount of law school debt I have. I can't just leave for any job, has to be something that pays enough. Don't go to law school, kids!
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 09:49 PM) It was 1 a.m. It was a side street. He learned I wasn't drinking. I didn't blow through it like a racecar driver. I pulled over w/in 2 seconds of seeing him come after me. I was polite, albeit chatty. Can I not expect a break when I had no tickets thru the whole year?? Not to pat myself on the back, but I've been donating a lot of money lately - our church expansion project, United Way, regular church Sunday donations, giving to some other projects ... I could use the 140 bucks. I am guilty though, but ??? Thank u very much for the advice and explanatory material here. I appreciate it. True, but cmon. 1 a.m.? Not drunk? Side street? No pity for Greg? By definition, you should not expect to catch a break.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 09:52 AM) I give up. Time to move on to those who acknowledge reality. You are beyond repair. Or an amazingly elaborate troll artist. Not sure which. I'm kinda holding out hope this is some decade-long, pointless con.
  10. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 04:42 PM) Of course, it was an overpayment, but they just came off of a Stanley Cup. Immediately, that puts your players, if you want to keep them, at a higher premium. There was no reason to believe that Bickell wouldn't improve the next season. In fact, most thought the playoffs were a jumping off point. AND, if I remember correctly, he even took a lower contract with the Hawks because he wanted to stay. I believe there were bigger contracts out there. So, who is a better GM? I can't answer that. There's really no such thing as the BEST GM. Even a blind squirrel sometimes gets a nut. But overall, Stan took a cap-strapped team from Tallon, re-made it TWICE, and won Stanley Cups. I'll even say the 2010 SC should be more on Tallon because they were mostly his players. I will agree, Stan is top 10. I would even say top 5. But he, just like every single person that has had the title GM, makes mistakes. That may have been Bickell's market value, but that doesn't mean the Blackhawks had to pay it. As I recall, that was a lot of the sentiment at the time. Anyway, no one is gonna be perfect. Bowman is a very good GM.
  11. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) Injuries killed him, and if I remember correctly he alsowas also said to be weak. We know with Grasu you can be really good at the collegiant level and still be too weak for the NFL. I remember a lot of people wanting him, even in the first round. Reports cane out from scouts that they wouldn't touch him till the 4th at the earliest. People thought that was crazy, and here we are. Yeah, you never really hear his name. What's the deal with him?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) Loving the new Silversun Pickups album Haven't really listened to them since Swoon. Similar vibe, or different?
  13. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) 1. So what of same-day registrations? And once you register, presumably at an earlier date, if you don't show any ID to prove who you are when you get there, you can say just any name that happens to be on the rolls. 2. Do you have proof that is what they do or are you just guessing? I would venture you are just guessing. I've used same day registration. Wanna throw my vote out? You still have to be able to show proof of residence. It's not like anyone can just walk in.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 10:53 AM) Not every school has the "talent" that exists in the SEC In the Power 5, you sure as hell can find enough that fit the bill.
  15. What a game. What a long game. The fact that we almost pulled that off is insane, with Howard out for all but a few series and Sudfeld out the second half. Still, having first and goal at the 6 with two timeouts and not scoring hurts.
  16. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) If people want to vote they have made it pretty easy to get some type of id. It just seems like some people would rather spend more time complaining about something than spending the 5 minutes it would take to get a voter id. But this doesn't address the "making a law where none is needed" aspect.
  17. Had the exact same thing happen to me, but got lucky. I blew a stop sign on a side street at about 12:45 at night. Cop was waiting, pulls me over. Walks up, looks at my license, says "You know, the key to blowing a stop sign is to make sure there isn't a cop there watching you. It's a $75 ticket for 3 seconds of your time." I said "Yes, sir." He just says "Bonus night" and walks away. Not even an official warning.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 08:37 AM) Well it's something that's been going on in SEC football recruiting for a long time. Though they call them "hostesses" I just assumed this was one of those things that went on to some degree at every Power 5 school.
  19. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 05:29 PM) First they were satellite offices, not DMVs. WHen money was flush they opened them to help people. Money isn't, so they stop operating them. And if voting is so sacrosanct, why do you NOT want to protect it? You need an ID for almost everything you do. Saying someone can't vote because they don't have an ID is stupid. The same people need that ID they don't have to drive, cash a check, get any kind of governmental assistance and so on. So they have it. And if they don't, they purposely don't. And for the FREE ID, They are giving them for free, and will come to you. How much more easier does it need to be? Right. I don't get Voter ID in general. It's not like anyone can just walk in the door. You still have to register by proving your address, that you live in the precinct.
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 07:04 AM) That judgment is going to be driven by the tuition-paying parents of the other kids at the school. Whichever particular sins offend them are the ones the school is going to forbid. Agreed, but the reasons for a decision and and the legal ramifications of a decision are two different things.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) Legally they probably have no case. Morally, I find it disgusting the school did this, especially after the kid had already started the school year. Ar they kicking out students if their parents divorce, or there is an affair? I mean really. Get over your bigoted selves. Only problem I see the school having is that kid had already gone to pre-school there. Did it only just find out the kid had two moms or something? Actually, take that back, two possible problems. Other problem is the school's director saying "The Bible says homosexuality is a sin. We don't condone any sinful lifestyles." That opens the whole can of worms of things like, "what about kids with divorced parents?" Courts really really disfavor getting into legitimacy of religious beliefs though, so I don't see this being a strong argument.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 10:58 AM) He was concerned about a possible concocksion. This was easily the best episode of the League this season. First two were meh. Taco making Kevin try to login into EBDBPrime was gold.
  23. Does anyone have experience with refinancing their student loans? I've heard of Sofi and CommonBond, among others. I'm not sure if these things are scams or are legitimate. I have some private loans from undergrad that are killer. One of them was an $8,000 loan I got senior year. I paid $25/month on it for more than four years through and after law school before having to start full repayment. The principal was up to to $9,600 at that point.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) There's a lot more similarities between running a campaign (top-down control over everything, fighting for "market share" against competitors, advertising) and being a CEO than running the executive branch. The President isn't a CEO; they have to work with Congress, they cannot hire and fire at will, they have to work with other global leaders, they're not fighting for quarterly profits etc., they have control of the largest army in the history of the world. There's a general skillset for effectively running large organizations that's applicable to both CEOs and Presidents. There are definitely differences, but there are some people that could do both. I'd want them to be in state government or Congress first though.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 08:46 AM) Debating if I want to watch the new American Horror Story. I gave up halfway through season 3. Didn't watch it last year. First season was great, then it fell way off.
