    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 18, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) Never read your posts on this, but you and I sound like we're working in the same type of firm. I make less than market rate, but I also work about 40-45 hours a week with plenty of time to search the internet and not feel stressed about getting stuff done. I get a decent bonus every year, nothing crazy, some profit sharing/401k contributions, and then referral fees for whatever I bring in. Could I make more at another place? Absolutely. Probably 20-30% more. But it would sacrifice my ability to get home by 6:15 and spend time with my son before he goes to bed. My concern is 5 years from now if I don't get raises what I should do and/or how marketable i'll be. I have no idea what kind of horizontal movement there is in the litigation market. And I do probably 60/40 defense and plaintiff work, so i'm not really specialized like most. I didn't realize you were that split, I thought you were mostly plaintiff. You do insurance defense?
  2. QUOTE (MEANS @ May 18, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) Been pretty busy over the past couple weeks, but my wife and I welcomed our first child on 5-5-15. Hayden Michael Sterlachini. He came in at 7lbs 20" One more Sox fan in the family. Awesome! Congrats!
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2015 -> 03:12 AM) The Hawks are finally gonna play a hockey game again today? No way ! Have fun guys, I imagine you won't be the only people in red at the Honda Center. The Ducks aren't known for that active a fanbase, are they? I thought that region was dominated by the Kings.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ May 16, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) I pay too much to be a member on this site for it to go down on a Saturday! Must be that new owner Gage brought in.
  5. QUOTE (Pods70Rowand33 @ May 16, 2015 -> 08:15 PM) I just had Old Chub by Oskar Blues Brewery and that was pretty good. It's a Scotch Ale. There's a waitress at World of Beer in Evanston whose favorite beer is something from Oskar Blues. Every time I'm there (which is maybe once or twice or year when I'm back in Chicago) one of my friends has to ask her "What's the beer you always recommend?! It's your favorite!!" Half hilarious, half facepalm.
  6. I'm liking Rowand in the booth. He is raw and has things to work on, but I could see him getting good.
  7. Bielfeldt visitin IU this weekend Basically the definition "indifferent to this" news.
  8. I'll end up watching Pac12 games just because it's the best thing on late at night.
  9. QUOTE (farmteam @ May 15, 2015 -> 09:00 PM) I've heard good things but never had it before. I'm about to crack it open, I'll report back. Fin du Monde is great, the smokey-wheat taste is mighty fine. Hoegaarden is similar for me. Yeah, that White Rascal (Avery Brewing) was pretty damn good. Has that smokey flavor ala Fin du Monde.
  10. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ May 15, 2015 -> 08:11 PM) Love me some Fin du Monde. I really need to try more stuff from Avery (The Reverend is really all I've tried and it's quite good) and Boulevard. I've heard good things but never had it before. I'm about to crack it open, I'll report back. Fin du Monde is great, the smokey-wheat taste is mighty fine. Hoegaarden is similar for me.
  11. I just mixed up a couple six packs. I'm in a wheat-y mood (which is my favorite anyway). I grabbed: 4 Fin du Monde 1 White Rascal (Avery Brewing) 1 Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat 1 Alaskan White 1 Bell's Oberon 1 Bell's Oarsman Ale 1 Hell or High Watermelon (21st Amendment) 1 Clemmentine White Ale (Clown Shoes) 1 Trappistes Rochefort It'll be a fun Friday.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) Discovery@Discovery On average, emperor penguins grow to be 3.8 feet tall. Pittsburgh Penguins ‏@penguins 23h23 hours ago @Discovery As of May 13, 2015, the average Pittsburgh Penguin grows to be 6’1”. Discovery ‏@Discovery 3h3 hours ago @penguins Strange. Our latest observations show no Penguin activity currently on ice in Pittsburgh. Where did they go? You know it's bad when the Discovery channel burns you.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 14, 2015 -> 05:41 PM) How many schollies did Crean need again? We were fine by this point, because April said he was transferring a few weeks ago. In total, it's Morgan, Anunoby and Bryant coming, with Robinson, Hoetzel and April leaving. So now there's actually two open spots. No problem with the decision to dismiss them. Both had been in trouble within the past year or so and they went and did it again. Just dumb.
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 13, 2015 -> 09:17 PM) Game 7 OVERTIME!!!!! Hockey Game 7s are great when it's not your team.
  15. QUOTE (Tex @ May 13, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) My daughter wants to backpack Iceland this summer. She thinks it would make a great father's day gift Especially when Dad's buying
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 10, 2015 -> 06:57 PM) WTG, Ricky...both the win and the woman. Yes and yes. That was just a great finish Sunday. QUOTE (Tex @ May 13, 2015 -> 08:14 AM) Almost half of his GIR went for birdies, that's great putting. 1.55 putts per GIR is tour level play. That is fun to watch. By my calculations that was 24 putts for his round. Again, tour level performance. That's almost what I had for each of my 9s the first time I went out this year. I seriously don't think I've been that poor around the greens since high school. Several 3-putts, chipped across the green a few times...even if I had my normally mediocre short game I would have shaved off at least 10 strokes. Drove the ball better than I have in ages, though.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 12, 2015 -> 09:15 PM) Allen west: victim of sharia law http://mediamatters.org/blog/2015/05/11/al...f-sharia/203610 Even for internet comments, there's some pretty special ones in there.
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 12, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) Yeesh. I would hope a judge wouldn't even entertain a lawsuit as the whole situation is ridiculous. Your friend acted out of line though. He should have let it go after he fled. That would be pretty nice sometimes, but they have to go through the motions (literally).
  19. Canelo Alvarez straight beat the s*** out of James Kirkland Saturday. That was way more entertaining that Mayweather-Pacquiao.
  20. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 11, 2015 -> 08:27 PM) A kid I know was at the Sox game on Saturday night with his parents and sister. Just to paint a picture, he's 22, his dad is 52 and his mom about the same age. They are in the ramp heading out and a 60 year oldish man, with his wife, comes up to his mom, puts his hands on her shoulders, says "Happy Mother's Day" and makes a move as if he is going to try kiss her. His dad intervenes and starts yelling at the man. The guy runs off but the kid I know chases him down and knocks him on down. His sister was trying to stop him and chased him and the guy's 90 lb 60 year oldish wife starts swinging her purse and hitting his sister. Then Sox security broke it up. So the old man started it with what seems like sexual harassment towards the kid's mom but the kid was the first to get physical. If the old couple tried to sue, what would typically be expected in court? Thanks to any responders. Since it sounds like the situation was basically over (guy was running away) when your friend chased him, it wouldn't really be any help that the creep "started" it. There's no self-defense or anything there. But, your friend's family could threaten to counterclaim for some sort of assault or sexual battery for the old guy's initial actions, as well as for the wife's assault and battery on your friend's sister, which might be enough to just make them go away.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 8, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) fun side note: this would be illegal in Illinois since you must maintain the same drink prices from open until close. So can places in Illinois not have happy hour specials? Rock next time you're up here give Fair State a shot. Great place, right now it's just a taproom, they don't distribute anywhere. Guy behind it (Nico) used to be at Live Oak down in Austin. I've also heard amazing things about the new Surly taproom. Do you guys get Surly down in Chicago? It's probably the favorite local beer in the Cities. Either that or Summit.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 9, 2015 -> 10:53 AM) Bought a house out in Vegas for my parents, as they have decided to move out to Las Vegas after being lifelong Chicagoans. They are excited, but very frightened at the same time. The Vegas real estate market has been tough. It's incredibly volatile - we've seen a 30% upward swing in the last 2 years and that is after a 40-50% upward swing from the bottom of the market in '11. To be frank, I did not thing it was especially wise to buy into this market, but I had no other real choice. My parents have large dogs like myself, so a rental was out of the question and they wanted a larger lot as well. After a few months of looking, finally found something that checked off all the boxes. 1800 sq ft on a half acre in a solid location with no HOA and move-in ready at a reasonable price. Made a strong initial offer the same day I saw it because they claimed they already had one. They countered a few times but I just refused to budge. In the end, they accepted my offer. The yard has desert landscaping at the moment (read: it is full of rocks), so I need to get some quotes to get them hauled away. Then we're going to landscape with a ton of native ground cover, shrubs, trees, etc. One exciting thing, the yard has a large in-ground pool, which neither of our current properties in Vegas have. Now on to the stress of moving my parents out here and a baby on the way in July. Deep breaths...one thing at a time... Sounds stressful but also once it all gets settled down, could be a pretty great situation. Good luck!
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 8, 2015 -> 07:05 AM) 2013-14: 98 regular season points, 6 playoff wins 2014-15: 100 regular seasons points, 4 playoff wins I guess he sets the bar very, very low? I'd be surprised if Yeo isn't gone. They're not exactly happy with him here.
  24. It's kind of amazing to see how absolutely pumped everyone here was for this series, even after the game 1 loss, and now how deflated they are. Everyone wearing Wild gear EVERYWHERE, plastered all over billboards and buildings, the topic of conversation 24/7. Now they're just sad. Lost in all this is that the Hawks haven't actually won the series yet. Obviously it would take a miracle for Minnesota to win, but that's the line of thinking that makes it more possible. Finish them.
