McCarthy's time in the NFL can't be considered anything other than a success but I do think it's a legitimate question how much of that was just having Rodgers on the roster. This is the specific reason I never liked John Fox.

    Machado signs with Padres 10/300

MANNY MACHADO SIGNS WITH WHITE SOX ...is the thread title I would post if that had just happened.

Why would either of these three coaches be the highest paid? This "cheap" narrative is from the 80s and it needs to be murdered already. In 2019, when the Bears need to pay someone, they pay them. Nagy's making a typical salary for a first-year head coach, if he has a lot of success he'll get extended and make more, just like Lovie did.

I'm not going to minimize the influence Fangio had, but talent > scheme (unless you go full Lovie and hire Bob Babich). There are plenty of quality defensive coordinators that could be had. The Bears are also a 3-4 team on paper but didn't play their base defense very often, the hybrid scheme is the norm these days.

They don't need a WR better than Robinson, they need a speedy guy who can reliably run vertical routes. Taylor Gabriel is just ok. Much as I hated Johnny "Caused Half Of Cutler's Fucking Interceptions" Knox, he would fit perfectly in this offense right now.

That's a fair take. I think Robinson is a solid option though. Hopefully Miller takes that next stop next season, the learning curve for WRs is steep.

Brady didn't have a great statistical season this year. Dude is 40-something, he was good, but this wasn't vintage Brady.

Gabriel's catch radius was definitely a thing this year. Especially early on before Trubisky figured out his stride, if the throw wasn't perfect Gabriel wasn't completing it.

Forcing runs for the sake of running the ball is a meatball take imo.

The Eagles secondary is said to be weak but you don't play the games on paper. They were actually doing a pretty good job preventing big plays in the first half, although the verticals were there to be had and Trubisky didn't start attacking them until later.

Nagy doesn't adjust his play calling? I don't think that's true at all. I think he did a great job despite the incessant b****ing ("run more with Howard" when he's been dropped for 2 yard losses 4 times, "stop getting cute" but only when the cute plays don't work, etc.)

The reason for this being that QBR weights its plays based on the situation, so if Trubisky gets a 5 yard pass on 3rd and 5, he gets a lot of credit for that, whereas traditional stats (like y/a which factors into QB rating) would "punish" him for not getting more yards on the throw.

They didn't really die by Trubisky's arm though. Trubisky and Robinson were great today. Miller kinda hit the rookie wall this year so he'll be better next year, and Burton was missed as Shaheen was a non-factor. Dude is soft as baby thighs.

What is your argument here exactly? Is it that Trubisky's mobility is not similar to Rodgers's earlier in his career? Because that'd just be plain false. They use their mobility differently because they have different coaches but physical tools are physical tools.

It feels like you are using a really specific and narrow definition here. Rodgers wasn't a "running QB" the way people think Cam Newton is but he was definitely a threat to pick up yards with his legs. He didn't have an offense designed around that but almost nobody did then except maybe Tebow (because he couldn't do anything else). He used his mobility to extend plays, one of the reasons he got sacked a lot.

Trubisky played well - he was getting spied in the first half and the Eagles did a decent job containing him without blitzing. The verticals were there but he just wasn't getting the breaks, he started to connect in the second half. He put them in a position to win, it just came down to the scenario we all feared for the whole season.

There was a point in the 4th quarter where he ran on a first down and tried to run between 2 Colts LBs instead of just sliding and taking 6-7 yards. He got maybe 2 extra yards out of it. I guess it's hard to convince football players not to do that but still.

Should be treated the same as any fumble out of bounds, give them the ball and it's X and goal at the 1

I actually was surprised they let him have that TD. As I understand the rule, that's pretty clearly supposed to be a touchback.

The games I've seen Watson in before, his accuracy is much better than this. Right now he just looks plain average.

I don't understand why McDaniels is being seriously considered as a head coach. I mean his character already had an asterisk on it (if you recall part of the reason he got fired in Denver is cuz he got busted cheating) but the stunt he pulled with the Colts would have me far away from him if I was a GM.

Romo used to do this sort of thing all the time, but because the vast majority of NFL fans are mouth-breathing idiots, they mocked him and made endless memes about him being a pussy.
