  1. Found this to be interesting per MLBTR... "Jim Bowden of ESPN and MLB Network Radio wonders if the Cardinals will play Peralta at third base, keep Matt Carpenter at second base, and trade Kolten Wong for a better overall shortstop (via Twitter)." Is there still hope?
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 04:12 PM) Finally, what compelling reason would the Dodgers have to trade Kemp in the first place? They don't need the money or salary relief. They went through the last season watching Ramirez, Kemp and Crawford battle injuries and know the value of having a deep bench. Plus, Ethier's 2 years older, basically a platoon player now and didn't put an 800 OPS in less than 500 AB's. If I'm Coletti, I'm waiting for a comeback season from Kemp....and not sending $20-40-60 million to another team to subsidize that contract, knowing just one more MVP caliber year and he becomes a valuable asset again. Very good points! Hadn't thought of those myself but make a lot of sense. I think this finishes off the idea of Kemp on the south side. QUOTE (mike65 @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) Hey guys, I was hoping for Ramirez to the Cardinals but that is not happening. I came here in July with a hope for Ramirez and, again, this off-season. I will leave zero for two. I was listening today to XM and they had Josh Byrnes on. I don't know if he slipped but he mentioned that his office was having email problems and he hadn't been able to reach Rick Hahn. He is headed to Chicago for Thanksgiving and said he planned to just walk into his office so they could finish their business. Take it for what it is worth as a parting gift. I sure have enjoyed this board and thanks for making me feel welcome. I hope 2014 is better for the White Sox. Thanks for the hope of a better 14 season, we can use all the help we can get. Appreciate the heads up on what Byrne's said. Gives a very boring off season some hope for Sox fans. Don't be a stranger Mike.
  3. The time of the MLB turning a blind eye goes back even before McGwire and Sosa dueled it out for the HR crown back in 98. I still remember cub fans and media alike creamed their shorts when Sosa showed up in ST MUCH bigger than he was the year before at seasons end. It was obvious to everyone yet nobody said s***. MLB did nothing til it became obvious, thanks Bud!
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) Agree with you he is being way overpaid. I guess it shows just how desperate the Cards are. Doesn't make sense to me considering the depth of their farm system.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 11:45 PM) Nothing we would be willing to part with. I see what you mean. Not like the Sox are overloaded with talent to spare. They need all the quality aspects they have right now while Hahn replenishes the farm. At least the farm is finally heading in the right direction. One more thing, love the Sig Rock!
  6. Turned down 4/52m? Wow! I'm guessing 4/65m. Too much for him no matter.
  7. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 09:01 PM) They would probably ask for Quintana back. Big mistake on their part to let him walk in free agency a few years ago. Big mistake indeed! Can't say I would do that deal. If Sanchez was closer to MLB ready than yes but not with him at least a few years away yet. I'd consider Santiago for sure.
  8. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 07:10 PM) Can we trade for Gary Sanchez please? Like this idea myself. He's a few years away but why not? Wonder what the Yanks would want.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) We are now the NBA. Haha, how about Spud Webb as a starting pitcher?
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 06:32 PM) So we can be interested in McCann but not Kemp? Doesn't make sense to me. McCann is a nonathlete heading into his age 30 season. Kemp is an athlete entering his age 29 season. The only real argument you really have is the Sox taking on that contract. If the Dodgers kick in money and the contract that was a 120 whatever million comes down to say a 100 million contract that's not that far off. Especially if we had money going out as well. Who said anything about McCann? Not me. Was he really an option in the first place considering the direction the Sox are heading and comments made by Hahn about the Sox not being players in the free agent market plus how McCann would cost a second round pick? Don't get me wrong, I love what a healthy Matt Kemp would do at the Cell. Hahn has said the Sox are looking for younger talent under team control for years to come that they could eventually extent for additional years. Kemp doesn't seem to fit that scenario at all.
  11. I'll bet Salty is happy right now. This just raised his asking price no doubt and pretty much negating any chance of the Sox signing him (IMO).
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) Compelling argument. Considering Kemp's age, contract and recent injuries combined with the Sox looking for younger talent that's under team control for years to come, what compelling argument needs to be made?
  13. As of right now I hope kolek is our guy. Watched video of him and he's impressive to say the least! Wicked slider and a good curve ball when he has a feel for it.
  14. I retract my post on the first page. Considering the Sox were paying Floyd (same age as Vargas) 9.5m in 13 to put up his typical low to mid 4 era, this contract isn't bad at all since Vargas has better numbers.
  15. 4 years for Vargas? Doesn't say much for pitching in the Royals farm system. Ouch.
  16. Wow. The Sox better do something soon because the natives are clearly restless. Neither player seems to be a long term solution for the Sox so in the end does it really matter? I will say Conner is young enough to say "ya never know" , just not something I would count on.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 07:16 PM) I'll go Santiago, Beckham, and Viciedo. Right on, this would be my guess as well. This would allow the Sox to slide DeAza to left in hopes of having a real CF out there in 14 (don't know who). Just don't see many teams interested in Flowers but these three guys for sure. Good call. Its about time rumors got going. This has been torture so far.
  18. Jacobs 1 for 2 2B 2BB Mitchell 1 for 4 HR 1K 1R 1RBI McCray 4IP 7H 3ER 2BB 1K 2HR
  19. QUOTE (59th street @ Nov 11, 2013 -> 07:41 PM) It is the "upgrade at third" part that makes me want to consider this. I may be overly optimistic but with a few "upgrades" at 3B and catcher and the expected middle of the order impact of Garcia and Abreau we are not entirely in a retool youth movement but a compete now mode. I also like Gillespie as a development 3B and see Semien as the guy pushing Beckham at 2B. The pitching is good enough to compete now, why not solidify the defense without busting the budget or losing a draft pick and see if the 2014 White Sox can recapture what they were like in 2012. It just seems like a low cost/possible high return opportunity. I hear ya and agree except what happens if Uribe's numbers fall? Gonna be difficult to trade him away and now the Sox are stuck with his salary while he blocks Semien or whomever we might get in a trade to play third. Last I read Rick had visions of Semien playing third so I wouldn't want to block that position. If the Sox trade Gordon and start Kepp at second we might be able trade Kepp at the deadline and open up second for Semien. I can see getting Uribe if thats the plan but this doesn't help lack of LHB in the lineup. With so many holes to fill I just don't see the Sox contending next year so let the younger talent play and see what we have.
  20. Love Uribe and all and there's no doubt he would be an upgrade at third but don't the Sox have enuff RHB in the lineup? Semien is one thing being young and all but signing Uribe would would be signing him just for the sake of signing him, doesn't really make sense considering the Sox are going with youth during the retooling that's going on.
  21. I like the idea of signing Salty but considering it could take few years to re-tool this team, a short term deal doesn't make much sense. With the current state of things I would only sign Salty if I could get him in a 4-5 year deal in hopes that when the sox contend again they would still have Salty around. No point in signing a guy that could be a free agent again by the time the team is ready to contend. I say take a chance and go for it as long as the annual salary is reasonable.
