They also get a dividend check back from the energy industry annually.

I'd move to Alaska for the right opportunity. Cold/snow don't bother me tremendously, and I love the thought of never having to stay up past 10pm to watch Sox games!
It would have to be Anchorage, though. I still need to have some sort of city nearby. |

It's #1 with unemployed alcoholics. Not hating on the state, Alaska in summer is about as close to perfect as I can think of. But it is a tough life in some respects.

The cost of living is very high. I was stationed there when I was in the Coast Guard. We got a nice cost of living allowance because of the high prices for groceries, gas, etc.
That being said, I'd go back in a heartbeat. It's an outdoors lover's dream. |

I would love to spend a significant amout of time in Alaska, but my wife who is literally allergic to cold (no bull — her body generates an inflammatory response similar to an immune response with prolonged exposure to cold air or water) would never go for it.

My Godfather lives in Alaska and I'd move there on the drop of a dime if I could. I really am not a fan of big cities, and having infinite fishing and hunting possibilities would be a dream come true. I was there in April, which is a cruddy time of the year, and I still fell in love with that state.

My ex was the opposite, she could not handle the heat. Best thing I ever did was moving to South Texas (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lolhitting.gif) |
