This is exactly what I feel when people talk about the Ishbia's bad spending in Phoenix. GIve me failed effort over no effort all day, every day.8 points

I would prefer an owner who breaks/bends rules to spend more money, than our current one who probably breaks/bends rules to spend less.6 points

Do you really think Chris Getz is building his offseason plans around selling season tickets and fan reaction? He’s simply trying to make the team with the very limited resources he has. Our payroll was like $80M last year and that’s without a TV deal to open the season. There is no way they go down again after showing some signs of improvement. Let’s also not act like a $90M payroll is a big deal, it will almost certainty be in the bottom 5.3 points

And what does it have to do with the White Sox Offseason Outlook?2 points

As a Rita alum, I can’t say I have followed them since I graduated over 20 years ago (😬), but I was definitely gonna come to this thread and rub it in if they pulled off the upset 😆 Congrats to @WhiteSox2023 and @greg775. I know this meant a lot to you guys.2 points

I'm with you on Baldwin. I just love the underdog everyone keeps wanting to pencil into a superutility role. Screw that, we need more speed , lefties (SH) ,OF's & power. The defense will get better with more reps and coaches in his ears.2 points

Great post and thanks to Milkman for his post. I went to Rice when it had way more kids than it does today. Got cut from basketball even tho our Q of M team won the city league title and got cut from baseball as there were so many kids they worked tryouts over several days by position, LOL. I like to follow high school sports in my old stomping grounds from afar and was hoping Rice could win a title or two. I know the Catholic schools recruit it's always been that way. We finally recruited the best kids in the area I guess, lol.1 point

Yeah, don't buy that for a second. Like always, there is absolutely no appeal to playing for the Chicago Bulls organization.1 point

Thank you! I only started following BR once my older son first started talking to Coach Q (right after he was initially hired) as an 8th grader playing for the Downers Grove Panthers in the Bill George Youth Football League (BGYFL) and then decided to go to BR. Quedenfeld would bring his two toddler kids to almost every DG Panthers game on the weekends to try to recruit the team’s players like Owen Lansu and others. Most of them ended up going to Downers Grove North, but he hooked my son. Since then, my younger son transferred from Downers Grove South to BR this year for his sophomore year and he is way happier there. Coach Q truly did recruit/build this team starting from when most of these kids were freshmen. It took him four years to build a champ. Pretty cool. In his post-game interview, he mentioned building this team from the start of his first year and also stressed that he couldn’t believe any parent would not want to send their kids to a Catholic school like BR. He was really selling it for the administration, almost as if he was told to mention it. 🤣 The cool thing is that I actually went to Fenwick so I got the best of both worlds this year. But I am obviously way prouder about the BR title for my son and his teammates.1 point

Hit up a Blue Jays game at Coors this year...it is a fun ballpark! They open the gates to the OF seats early for batting practice and have a stand selling $3 Coors Original/LIght tallboys until game time! Took my 3 boys and my parents...had a blast! Jays crushed the Rockies but every single employee we interacted with was polite and positive. My parents needed assistance getting to their seats and the Rockies provided wheel chair service from the handicapped parking lot all the way to their seats! And when the game ended, the same workers met us and wheeled my parents all the way back to the car! It was a fun night for my family! The Rockies suck yeah...but the park felt like a destination that night...on a weeknight in August!1 point

I like the signing. As some have said, I’d rather see him than Perez, as I believe Kay is 5 or 6 years younger. I do want them to sign another vet for the rotation, my ideal choice being Mike Soroka, and have Burke and Cannon battle it out to be the #5 starter. Curious to see what Bannister/Bove can do wit Kay to elevate him.1 point

Most of the BR security guards at the school are retired local cops so they have an inside hookup.1 point

Congrats to you and your son! Both offensive line and defensive line are so good. The boys and the coaches were truly dominant and now will go down in history as one of the top 2 teams in school history, arguably the finest team. In this day and age they had what, one close game all year? Glad Rita advanced instead of one of the Lincoln Ways. You can't win without a great running game and our linemen made it possible along with some skilled backs including that outstanding QB. Coach Q obviously is a genius coming from Cali and recruiting a great team and coaching them up. Badke should take a bow for starting this return to dominance (along with Marist of course) of the far south side. Mt. Carmel can't be touched; glad they weren't in 7A. Hold a parade for the guys, South Side officials. Down Pulaski. Let St. Rita take part in some way. They closed well this year and deserve praise. Tell your son we former Rice students are proud of the linemen. Their work has not gone unnoticed. Fantastic title. I'm ecstatic because of the work of the boys and Q.1 point

If the goal is improving outfield defense, then just put Bleday on a corner. Having watched a lot of O'Hearn, just really worry about his having peaked first half last year and buying high before a dip down or perhaps worse to mean career numbers from last year's outlier. At any rate, Fuller would be able to make the right call on OHearn. Seems like Pereira will at least platoon in RF...or replace Robert in CF when Braden theoretically comes up mid season.1 point

BR State Champs! It’s a 16-0 shutout of St. Rita. BR’s second title in school history and first one since 1981. #69 ❤️1 point

Can't wait for Schriffen to start singing "Every miss begins with Kayyyy" for his strikeouts followed by Stone sitting quietly in contempt for 5 mins1 point

Per Japanese pitch tracking data, Kay had a 5-pitch mix last year. Four seamer, cutter, slider, sinker, changeup. The cutter and changeup are mainly used against righties, the slider mainly against lefties. Stuff+ really likes the cutter, slider, and sinker. Hitters did not hit them very well either. None of the stuff he throws generates much swing and miss. Pounds the cutter inside to righties, changeups are almost always thrown below the zone and away to righties, slider almost always thrown low and away outside the zone to lefties, sinker almost always in on the hands to lefties. 4 seamer aimed at the top of the zone or trying to snag outside strikes. The xERA suggests his good results were mostly deserved although not at a <2.00 ERA level. As you'd expect, he's better against lefties than righties. Very high groundball rate against lefties. Note that the Japanese baseball has more armside run and tends to have better rise. This is due to a mixture of better grip + larger seams, leading to higher spin rates and more seam-shifted wake. Kay doesn't rely on spin rate but he might be affected by lower seams on MLB balls. Of course, every pitcher is relying on at least one of those two things. 4-seam fastball averaged 94.4mph last year, roughly the same as when he was last pitching out of the pen in MLB.1 point

Surprised a multiyear contract but with any amount of success he'll be gone at the deadline. But as we saw with Fedde, the market isn't strong for these comeback types. He'll have to be outstanding with better than expected stuff to be in demand.1 point
