To me, this shows they were not serious about getting high impact players. Machado signed on the lowend of what everyone expected when this off-season began. And what future negotiations are you talking about? 26 year old Superstar free agents don't exactly grow on trees. This was the chance and they blew it.

Is it overreacting to think that today could be the day that leads to the Sox eventually leaving town? If fans throw their hands up and attendance gets even worse. When JR passes away and the team sells, would a new owner want to stay here if they have the worst attendance in the league? Or the 2nd worst attendance?

Knowing they dont want to pay for talent makes it hard to stay pumped up about the rebuild.

It's going to be interesting. Will people stop coming because they are pissed? Or will Eloy cause attendance to go up?

Well Harper is the guy I preferred all along. But if KW said they wont spend 300 mil, then I guess it's not happening. I'm still shocked they lost this to the flippin' Padres. How pathetic.

So Bob Nightengale is accusing Lozano of lying? If he's telling some teams one number and other teams another number, he's lying to somebody. Ironic given Lozano's statement a month or so ago.

Remember back in October when everyone thought Manny would get 300-350? The Sox should have no problem going above 280 if they are serious, which I believe they are.

Teams better be careful with giving him to big of a signing bonus, if they are also going to give opt outs after 2 or 3 years.

If the Sox get outbid by San Diego, then they deserve all the scorn that will be coming their way. I don't see it happening, though. Jerry knows what is at stake here. This whole Machado thing has taken on a life of it's own and they simply can't lose at this point.

This is where I'll be pessimistic. If the Sox don't land a whale here, I don't think the rebuild will be successful to the point we all want it to be. As I said in the Harper thread - they must sign one of these guys. Period.

If the Sox sign Machado, I suspect Moncada taking groundballs at 3rd will be over. We might see him shagging flyballs in CF though.
