  1. I'm glad the Sox didn't get impatient and trade him a few months ago. He's already rebuilding his value. This is good.
  2. I dont disagree with you. A move to Arlington would clearly be remaking the fanbase to a degree. It probably would grow immensely.
  3. I've long thought the Chicago suburbs are one of the most untapped fertile sports grounds in this country. All of our 'local' professional teams are deep in the city, which makes going to a game a large ordeal for most suburban fans. Particularly during the week. This all screams Arlington Park to me. The land is big enough for 2 stadiums, plus all the hotels, restaurants, bars, parking, etc. They can get the state to pitch in for infrastructure of one location. There's already a metra station there...
  4. Increased spending on what? Catchers and relief pitchers? Because we know he won't ever spend for top players on the market. See the Manny machado/Bryce Harper debacle. And he is afraid to commit to starting pitchers as well.
  5. As a lifelong Sox fan who is now in my early 50's, I never in my life thought I would take this position. But if this jerk who has refused to spend the money to run a decent franchise thinks we're going to hand him another billion dollars...he can go f himself and take his damn team to Nashville or wherever he wants to go. I'm so done with Reinsdorf. This feels like we're all being setup for one final fu from Reinsdorf before he passes away.
  6. But what if he falls short of being an ok regular? It's gotta be hard to pass up being set for life.
  7. I think the problem is - a lot of people posting in this thread live in a fairytale land where Cease's value is remotely near what it was a year ago. The White Sox need to either accept poor value back for him or gamble that he repairs his value a bit during the season while still here.
  8. I haven't posted a lot in this thread. But I said in the beginning of the off-season that if you trade Cease now, you're selling low on him. I'm not sure why anyone is surprised that the alleged offers are mediocre. If I'm the Sox, I roll the dice and let him start the season with us. Yes you're risking another off year further lowering his value - as you are also risking catastrophic failure if he gets injured. But if he has a dominant month or two to start the season, his trade value returns to 2022 levels. You dont have to wait until the trade deadline to move him if he starts out hot. That's what I would bet on. Given the sorry state of the White Sox franchise as we stand right now, what really do we have to lose by waiting and taking that risk?
  9. Isn't everyone tired of bobbleheads yet? I used my favorite giveaway today actually. It was the White Sox winter trapper hat. That hat is awesome in crappy cold and windy days when you're snow blowing.
  10. This is crazy. I feel like I'm a Pittsburgh Pirates fan now.
  11. Seems pricey for what he brings. But I'm happy for Lucas.
  12. Good for Dodger fans. But I can't help but think them buying all the best players will erode baseball's national popularity over time.
  13. It definitely feels like Eloy will be gone to the highest bidder. Like a likely Cease trade - they will probably be selling low on him.
  14. I don't see trading Cease as a good idea right now. Are we trying to lose 110 games - so we can tank for an at best 10th pick in the draft due to the large market rules? And it's selling low on Dylan. Let him start the season with the Sox, and it's probably only going to increase his trade value. Possibly in a massive way. Like it or not, his trade value is probably a small fraction of what it would have been a year ago.

    Cease

I'm not sure you can sell high on Cease right now. Might be better off letting him re-establish his value as a #1 next season and then shop him.
  16. Arlington Heights isn't any team's country. There is no team out here. People just pick what team they pick, and yes, like most of Chicagoland, and the country for that matter, there's more Cubs fans than Sox fans. The idea is fans would embrace actually having a local team and would support them well. If you disagree, then ok.
  17. Financially - I think it would make sense for the Sox to concede Chicago to the Cubs and move to the burbs. They may find there's more dollars to earn in the burbs than there ever was in the south side. I agree Naperville makes more sense to the Sox given their fan's geographical locations approximately. But they would likely be on their own there. Arlington would in conjunction with the Bears. If they built two stadiums at Arlington, it would come with hotels, restaurants, bars, entertainment, mega sponsors...and the teams could get those perspective businesses and sponsors to foot a lot of the bills there.
  18. If Jerry has selling the team on his mind (even if it's for his family's interests after he passes), locking in to an extension at a mediocre ballpark in a mediocre location probably wont help the team's value for the sale.
  19. I think the UC area is the best. It's convenient for city folks and is probably the most convenient Chicago location for suburban fans as well. Forget Soldier Field, - too hard to commute to there. Arlington Heights would be great for me - living in the NW burbs, but I get that it wouldn't great for most Sox fans.
  20. Didn't he threaten us a few weeks back in the interview with '10 more years' ?
  21. Bauer would bother me less than Clevinger does.
  22. Obviously here's no way to fix this team for next year, regardless of the path. But yeah, they need to move away from the Hahn/KW model of building half the team from 1B/DH types. It seems obvious, but I think it's one positive thought process.
  23. While I agree that competing next year is very unlikely. They seems to think they will compete. And as Cease is the only SP they have on the roster right now that doesn't really suck (Kopech), I don't see Cease being moved.
