I think the point of the series is not to highlight the obvious core pieces (Monty, Teel, etc), but the role players who could provide value around the stars. The successful teams need a bunch of 2-WAR guys just to fill the holes.

I have 2 points. Or one question and one point. You played college ball, right? Is the dead arm period of spring training a real thing? The point is that Thorpe threw 7 games in the bigs, and 6 were reasonably good 5-6 inning outings. Then he tried pitching through pain to disastrous results. I don't rely on my eye test or the reading of deep dive stats to know if Thorpe is actually awesome, or not. I know he was known for a great changeup.
