We just clinched a playoff spot after taking 3 of 4 against our biggest rivals. Many of our bats are slumping, and we are about to run into some really really good pitching. Sox seem ripe for a let-down, will be interested to see if they can avoid the trap series.

Baseball playoffs are so random, and a 3 game series even moreso. Every single team has a significant chance of being "swept" out (if 2 games is even a sweep) of the first round. That's why I think it is pretty important to win the division for the Sox. As a young, breakout team, I think having a division banner to put up next year would be huge for confidence and momentum in the likely case that we don't win the world series. I don't think it is worth something like getting your pitchers out of alignment to try and win the division, but I do think it is worth still playing our starters for most of the rest of the season.

For a guy who hated the idea of rebuilds, greg sure has rebuilt his reputation here quite a bit over the last year.

I think Jason yelling "JOSE BEAT IT OUT!!!! This game is TIED!!" is going to be on the pregame montages for quite some time.

I love Jason, and Hawk can't make it through 9 innings anymore anyway. But how special would it be if they had him come back to do the play by play for, like, just the third inning or something of our first playoff game this year.

The best part about winning the division would be winning the division. The second best part (potentially) would be forcing the Twins to play the Yankees in the playoffs again. If we don't get to beat them in the playoffs, then the Yankees would be my next choice for the schadenfreude.

Fangraphs has Grandal as 36% better on a rate basis. BIS has Grandal as 64% better on a rate basis. Baseball Savant has Grandal 18% worse on a rate basis.

Fangraphs has Grandal ahead on framing 1.0 to 0.6. BIS has Grandal ahead on framing 4 to 2. Baseball Savant has them tied at 2 (albeit in a 150 less pitches for McCann).

Tuesday I predicted we'd take at least 1 out of the last 2 and go on to win the division. And I definitely totally absolutely never wavered on that prediction today. Nope. Never a doubt in my mind. ?
