    The #1 goal is to win a WS. I think it is foolish to think this is going to be some sort of dynasty especially with this owner. I am not suggesting to upload the farm for some mid grade players, but giving a closer a 4 year deal shouldn't be a problem. Win the WS, and then we can talk about the possibility of a dynasty.

    The goal is to win a WS. After that, the goal can be sustainability. After seeing what San Diego gave up, I don't think our farm is as loaded as some think. I think it is top heavy, and those pieces will be graduated soon.

    If he goes the starter route, I don't see him pitching up here until the very end of the season. He would better serve the Sox in the bullpen this year.

    And the question becomes, why did you spend $8M on a bum?

    Does it matter what the market is? It makes 0 sense to squabble over signing a RP that isn't asking for the moon if you are looking to contend. We are not close to the threshold of paying luxury tax, you still have flexability, and this team is about to contend for a WS. This is penny wise but a pound foolish.

    Does that really matter? I mean, its not like he is seeking 10yrs and 300M. I think he is asking for a reasonable contract at $40M.
