There is an ocean of difference between having 2.6 million dollars and 25 million dollars in the bank. Plenty of people have gone broke with more. Luis's entire family is probably set for a long time. That wasn't the case for Eloy.

He wasn't on the 40 man then, you don’t burn an option unless you are rostered.

He's 24 years old. If he needs all of his option years he's probably useless anyway. The month of service time is also unlikely to matter.
