They will be a much better team hopefully as long as the core players continue to develop positively in 2021. But the clock on these guys being super cheap starts this year, so we do have to kind of make a push in 2020. This is why this Wheeler thing is rough, there is not much left to pick up FA wise this year and 2020/2021 classes are really thin for pitching. Zack Wheeler is not a #1 but he is a solid #2 with upside that could have helped anchor the rotation as Lopez/Cease/Kopech develop. I feel like the Sox are kind of backed into a corner now because the SP needs to be addressed and there just isn't much there outside of a trade.

I'm trading Madrigal in this scenario for SP/RF and putting Yo at 2b.

This is how I feel. He doesn't need to be great out there just serviceable. That bat LOOKS like it will play high at GRF and he's familiar with the pitchers/parks.

How about younger starting pitchers on shitty teams? German Marquez COL, Joe Musgrove PIT, Marco Gonzalez SEA, Matthew Boyd DET, Sandy Alcantara MIA. There's like 2 pitchers on there I would even want or consider.

I am legitimately curious what the FO's actual Plan B is. They clearly were all in on Wheeler, and I shudder to say this, but they have to of had a backup plan. The writing is on the wall from Stone and others they did not have any intention to go after #1 and #2, which I think is extremely short sighted. I'm going to let myself down for about the 5th time I think in the last year, but how do they not make some offers on those guys now and explain that to the fans?
