Figuring out MLB pitching is kind of important. Robert getting exposed to that in 2019 is going to help him in 2020. I really don't care about his PA's at this point, it's pretty apparent he isn't going to fall into an awful slump and be shit. Get him to AAA sometime this month and bring him up end of July.
If we miss on Cole, Strasburg, Wheeler, Wood? or any other viable SP option, I'd rather have them not spend than be locked up on a shitty pitcher. It would be a shame if we couldn't get a Trevor Bauer because we are paying Michael Wacha.
There are better FA targets in 2021, especially pitching. I don't see how the Sox spend less money next year than they did this year though. If we miss on Cole or Strasburg (if he opts out) I wouldn't mind some being saved for 2021. We should be competing for a WC spot next year with most of our core up.
85 million? That would put us in the bottom 5 in all of baseball, lol.
If we don't have around 130 million in payroll next year there is something really wrong.
Edit: Okay yeah, 85 million would be like 8 million less than we are spending this year. That is in no way realistic.
I've been saying for a couple months now to bring him to AAA in July for a pit stop if he's still hitting. I'm hoping we see him at some point this year as he has been tearing the cover off all season. Offspeed low and away is his weakness, don't know why you couldn't work on that in MLB since that is all he will see.
I think you trade Colome to the top bidder. See if you can get anything for Leury, Abreu, Yolmer. And at least listen on McCann and take it if it's some fleece show. I am sure we could get a decent return with some combination of these guys.
I still don't get the thought process. If you sign Machado you have a 5+ WAR 3B and a close to 5 WAR 2B in Moncada, where he is actually more valuable.
Instead you have Yo who is great just not as powerful at 3B, and negative WAR at 2B between Yolmer and Rondon. And we don't have any salary, signing Machado would not limit us from signing another FA SP.
