College stats can be subjective too. Does he play in a good conference. Is the conference up or down that year. Does he play in a hitter/pitcher friendly park. Is he doing his damage against the Friday guy or is he beating up on the weekday guys. In my opinion you can never scout stats for any amateur player. Tools first.
-
First thing you have to figure out is does he have "feel" to hit. Does he consistently hit the ball on the barrel. Can he handle an inside fastball. Then you can evaluate his swing mechanics/athleticism. Does he have bat speed. Does he have a strong hand load. Does he have a good hand/bat path. Does he use his lower half. Does he have good balance. Is it a groove swing. Does he have good pitch recognition. Can he recognize spin. It's not easy but these are all things that must be evaluated in all young hitters before you look at the players stats.

Palka is a constant reminder of what should never be.

Someone in the organization should realize that Jr is too advanced for even them to fuck him up. Then hopefully Hostetler is gone after the draft.
-
They call those guys 5:00 hitters because they have slow bats. Sheets has a slow bat.
-
He has a slow bat. That's why his power doesn't translate.
-
In 2017 they took Gavin Sheets while Mark Vientos was still on the board. That was a colossal blunder.
-
Henry has a one piece arm action (poor external rotation) that puts a lot of stress on the shoulder and could lead to major problems down the road. He's throwing it really well now but that arm action is a red flag for a lot of teams.

I've always wondered how they let Tatis be part of that deal. Did they get out scouted or did they simply not listen to their scouts? Neither is a good answer but if they didn't listen to their scouts that's a serious organizational problem.

I read somewhere that Eloy turned down an extension last year. Glad they're gonna get something worked out. Looking forward to him being the Opening Day left fielder.
-
I've never been less excited for an Opening Day. Pretty sure that's the 5th year in a row I've said that.
-
Hard to believe Alek Thomas hasn't been brought up yet.
-
I really like Lodolo but he's been way too inconsistent to pass up on a couple high ceiling HS SS's. If he continues to pitch like this he could move into the top 10 but not the top 3.
-
I get it. I don't scout stat lines but that one is ridiculous for any level of baseball.

I think I just got mansplained.

Good lord. That boy can play.

Agreed. I'm not a big Pederson guy either but he does fit well on this team. They desperately need a left handed hitting corner OF who can put together a professional AB (that Harper fella would have worked out too). They have depth in LH relievers and I think Fulmer needs a change of scenery. As long as the 3rd piece is not Bryce Bush I'm all for it.
-
A little of both. I think the Dodgers are still sorting some stuff out but will ultimately decide they just won't have the AB's for Pederson so he'll be more valuable as a trade piece.
-
I think the Pederson trade gets done before Opening Day.

I like Engel's new swing. He actually has some rhythm and timing now. Before he was simply playing defense at the plate fighting off pitches right down the middle. Now he actually has an approach and seems to have a swing that matches it. I've always liked him so I'm pulling for him and hope he can make this work.
-
I like Jamison. He'd be a nice 2nd round pick. Has some Sonny Gray in him. Ryan Zeferjahn (Kansas), Kenyon Yovan (Oregon) and Carter Stewart if he continues to drop are also possibilities.
-
It means they misevaluated him. He's not a 55. He's a 45.

https://twitter.com/PBRFlorida/status/1103093169506435073 Video of Riley Greene. Not sure how to post from twitter. God I love this kid's swing.

Those goofs were incredibly out over their skies on Madrigal.
