  1. Yes, but what kind of contact is he making on his outs to not strikeout? If he is just taking defensive slappy swings with 2 strikes and grounding out to the infield, that is going to keep his strikeouts done but also his SLG. He has to also sacrifice some contact to drive the ball. You can’t always swing like Juan Pierre.
  2. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/white-sox-use-second-round-pick-high-school-pitcher-matthew-thompson "Thompson announced his presence by reaching 95 mph as a rising junior at the World Wood Bat Association World Championship in 2017 and remains one of the hardest throwers in this year's prep class, though he has lacked consistency this spring. "Thompson has an ultra-quick arm and an athletic delivery that produces low-90s fastballs with a maximum velocity of 96 mph when he's at his best, though he also has worked at 89-90 at times this year.
  3. Do you realize the difference in money you are talking about between Machado and and Vaughn? There is no comparison to be made.
  4. I read and heard he has thrown up to 96 but his velocity varies wildly. Delivery issues?
  5. Good point. And with as risky of a pick as Abrams was because of how high he was picked, the Sox mitigated all of that potential risk by taking a potentially comparable player much later in the draft.
  6. Don’t forget Nova ($9 million). And Lip Man’s point is that it wasn’t exactly tough to identify Colome as a good trade target for closer. Colome has been exactly that in his career — a good reliever and closer. McCann is a much more impressive pickup because he had one decent year offensively and Hahn signed him for $2.5 million. Both guys are performing well above what was expected but many people could have predicted Colome being successful as a closer due to his career resume.
  7. Hire him as Cooper’s “assistant” or give Cooper the equivalent of Herm Schneider’s title and hire him as pitching coach.
  8. I tend to think the mechanical change to his delivery is what brought him success. If his delivery last year was the reason for his massive struggles, anyone would have mental issues as a result of being one of the worst starting pitchers in baseball. And in turn, it’s much easier to be mentally sound when your delivery and stuff is bringing you success start after start. Cause and effect, chicken or the egg, or something like that.
  9. Colome has one more year left so you can make that argument for him only. I would argue that one year isn’t very long and he’s worth trading for a good return. However, Abreu is a free agent. You may as well trade him. You can always resign him in the offseason if you want him back. Unless you are legitimately thinking the Sox still have a chance THIS year?!?
  10. Okay, I guess they were different then. In Benetti’s interview, he mostly talked about working extremely hard all offseason to change/revamp his delivery and this was the main reason for his success this year.
  11. Yes, this one loss isn’t changing a thing. Colome and Abreu made sense to trade before the season started. Colome even moreso now that he is lights out and has even better trade value than expected. It would be nice if Abreu gets hot and ups his value a bit but you can always bring him back in the offseason if you want to.
  12. How did he change his story? I thought you said he credited his old coach for the delivery change and Cooper for the mental aspect. The delivery change is the biggest difference and not every interview is going to be the same.
  13. Yes, he does. But he wants to do it his way by spending the least amount of money possible while making the highest profits. We won’t be signing any big time free agents, which usually is the final step to going on a long run of winning year after year (see Cubs and Lester).
  14. He’s going to the Yankees. Let’s focus on trading Colome and Abreu for the best return and replace Ricky with a major league manager in the offseason.
  15. 😂 That would be perfect too cuz he could yell and swear at the kids like you know he would want to but it will all be muffled by the costume.
  16. Exactly. Even if Cooper is done as an effective pitching coach, we all get to suffer through it. He is the dark lord’s loyal servant and will never leave this team until he decides to retire.
  17. Not sure but Benetti said that Stone is on vacation. Farmer could probably do an entire game talking to himself. I’m sure he’s fine.
  18. What is Yolmer due to earn via arbitration increase this offseason? $6-$7 million? The Twins got Schoop for $7.5 million. Surely there are better options as one year 2B signings.
  19. Colome should have been on the block regardless of how things went. Abreu too but I’m not sure what he can reasonably net in a trade. Trade both and resign Abreu in the offseason if he will accept a reasonable short term (2-3) year deal.
  20. At least he has a role. He’s very good at acquiring top draft picks.
  21. Yep. Giolito was interviewed during this very broadcast by Benetti and said he worked on changing his delivery all offseason. And this is what he was crediting his success this year to most of all.
