What Arnold Schwarzenegger movie was filmed at Comiskey Park? Please note I am not saying much of the footage was used in the movie. In fact what was used was very subtle. But it is there. A hell of a lot more than what made the final cut was filmed at Comiskey. The ballpark chase scene just didn't make the directors cut - or anyone's cut. Bonus points: what team do we play in the footage shown in the movie? Extra bonus: on the game day of the filming, someone was playing at Comiskey who still plays for the Sox. And that is: _______________

Keep thinking of every other possible way for JR to spend millions money without us spending a $20. The solution is, fans have to go to the games. It is attendance, attendance, attendance. Fans got to get off their dead asses and stop dreaming that Tinkerbell will show up with the calvary so fans can sit home and say "spend money, JR." And I for one would really resent any stupid team naming ploy - the example you give, or the the Bears solution, or any other. The stadium was one thing. The team is another.

wrong. some of us remember Ozzie's entire carrer and see nothing remotely managerial about it. there are perspectives other than the ones you can frame.
-
I'd like to smoke whatever is making anyone think Ozzie will be AL manager of the year right now. I could use a flight from reality right about now...
-
welcome to Soxtalk! and is it true? some else who is not ripping into JM? Wow! I love it! I also like "when the Ozzie era is over..." I have already begun an Ozzie Death Watch on sox&roll. I just cannot warm up to this hiring. What were they thinking. It may have been time for JM to go, sadly and unfairly, if for no reason that all the restlessness- but why couldn;t we have gottern a real manager? And if we were going to by the debut of someone, I would have prefered Eddie Murray. Cal Ripken said he learned from Murray than anyone. Think about that. What do we get? we get never take ball 4 when you can swing and miss, never have patience, and I don't owe the fans anything. Not since we hired Bob Lemon and I wondered why we got a very old retread long past his best days (and he never did stay awake in the dugout) have I been so unhappy - or unhappy at all - with a new manager.

The perception is: I haven't been hearing volumns about the Sox unloading everyone. I have heard a lot of speculation by fans, but very little out of 35th Street. Tribune articles have pointed out the realities of baseball economics but I haven't heard anything like KW saying "fire sale is on after 15% attendance increase." The only panic is that created on message boards like this when everyone speculates. Another poster says that the Sox could draw like the Cubs and nothing would change. I doubt that highly. That is more unproven speculation whiuch contributes to unfair and faulty perceptions. Last time we had some big attendance years we signed pitchers to long term contracts and Albert belle. Fanof14 my friend - anyone here can sign up for the Silver and Black pack club (fake a kids name if necessary) and for $25 get a nice Sox gift item - last few years, back pack and slide rule - and 6 free tickets. There is Pepsi 1/2 price night. There is Monday 1/2 price night. There is kids $1 on Sunday. There is the Sox 7 plan. There are certainly affordable ways to go out there. I love you fanof14 but I just cannot accept the "its too expensive" argument about not going. What is separating the Sox from other clubs is KW is not a big talker before a deal. Earlier this week Trammel was all over the Detroit papers saying he wants Tejada. My first thought - I hope the Sox are thinking that. My second reaction - is it always to incite fan expectations? If the Tigers do not sign tejada, will they feel really let down? Is Trammel adding to Tejada's asking price? There are multitudes of ways of looking at anything - but I have no use for the "fire sale going on" panic that has no grounds in reality other than the speculation - especially when a lot of that speculation is prefaced is "I heard it on the SCORE" or on ESPN or some other sports show. These people have air time to fill and it is a quiet time so they will say antything to create a little controversy and ratings. Why would anyone belioeve the rantings of any sports show on tv and radio? They are filling air time - not reporting news. Just their own speculations which because they say it on air feeds the power of their speculation but does nothing to make it true what so ever.

Save baseball. Smoke Bud. that was the signature of someone on the Oakland As MLB board.
-
I don't know about that. Wasn't Miller a publicly financed deal? If so it is very possible that things such as parking go to another source. Concessions are surely contracted out and probably more for a fixed amount or general revenue streams than straioght out percentages. Baseball has never opened the books and I wish they would but I don't think we can assume that every cent spent on the premises goes to the ball club.
-
ATTENDANCE ATTENDANCE ATTENDANCE I do my part - I live in Michigan and have seasons tickets Other revenue streams are the same for any other ball club - broadcast rights, etc. Not sure how the merchandise thing is structured through MLB. But attendance is key - fans have to put their money where their mouths are in regards to increasing payroll, which means, buy tickets.
-
It absolutely cannot. The naming rights is a contractural matter with the Sox and the Illinois Sports Authority and US Cellular. If any of that money from the contract goes to any operating expenses of the Sox, someone goes to jail.

I am just a poor boy but my story's seldom told, I have squandered my existence for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises. All lies in jest. Still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest. When I left my home and my family I was no more than a boy, in the company of strangers.

I understand that - I do not get jazz, no way do I get it at all, it speaks nothing to me - and yet I can recognise the greatness of the artists and the musical form and be in awe of that which is great - which I still don't get - keep working on the Em, you and Cap'n, it will come! Starts with hating it less, then disliking it less, and then one you hum Slim Shady and the next time you get mad at your mother you start singing Cleaning out my Closet and you listen to a track and you start laughing at his puns and word play... it all comes, give your selves over to the inevitable - Try as I might, I cannot get into Jay-Z (arrogant asshole) and Ja Rule and Nelly - I dislike the first two a lot and tolerate the third - Ludacris has some funny stuff - Missy Elliott when she works it is pretty good too - 50¢ has some great raps, some funny stuff, some clever lyrics even though he does a lot of posing, but he used it well to make that very strong "Many Men" song, and how can you not like an artist who writes, "I love you like a fat kid loves cake." I am finding myself liking - sit yourself - Tupac's music - more than I ever have. That man was genius! (Never thought I'd say that) He was also whacked, but a genius can be whacked.

1549, Spiff is going to knock it because it involves Michigan. Pay him no mind. There are some good rivalries out there - Army Navy with the cadets marching in, Texas Texas A&M, Wabash DePauw, Harvard Yale (which is a rivalry only to the elite when they put the martinius down long enough), USC UCLA, FSU Florida - but Michigan and Ohio State - look at the passion when Michigan plays ND or MSU and you know that is small percentage of what happens this week - if 100 years doesn't convince, if the century long storied history of the two schools doesn't convince, if the 113,000 in attendance don't convince, and Hail Yes we could sell more... than nothing will because some people just want to put down what they don't understand or want to appreciate because of other biases. You don't have to like either school to recognise the ESPN thing is correct - the best rivalry, anywhere. The OSU band comes in and does the Script Ohio and the Michigan fans will cheer that - and then the opening beats of the Michigan cadance as the Michigan band bursts onto the field - the passion that just erupts as the Go Blue M Club Supports You banner goes up - and it was long, long before Woody and Bo that there was this rivalry - been the last game of the season since the 30s and that was done then because the rivalry was already so intense God made the sky Blue to shelter us and the sun Maize to warm us - here's to the colors that float through the night - are you going? You saw the meeting place at the other site - I somehow doubt I will make that, I have to get the kid up and in the car by 7 I think for the drive so we can park and this year maybe actually buy a program before they run out and we are in row 9 in Section 30, just next to the students, so we'll be standing all game - I think I want to get down there early and not worry about meeting anyone.

Paul on coke, maybe, but did he ever have many head colds, a runny nose? does he still have a septum? I am still going to be a skeptic until I see more proof, nothing against your friend, but coke causes actual chemical changes in the brain cells and resulting personality changes and his personality as we have seen it has not been altered at all in any way from the earliest days, he is still the same old Paul maybe he was lucky too but after all his grass busts I wouldn't think he'd want to keep risking anything but I could be wrong, I don't hang with McCartney, ask your friend to get the source so we can see, not trying to be a jerk, just doesn't jive

bingo! damn, you are good! that is exactly it, the blue covered rarities which the ex wife got in the divorce settlement because while I could not bear to break up the complete set of albums we had - we had some great stuff, a real hers, mine, ours thing - but I kept the original George Wonderwall album, I die with that one - I am the only living American who bought it and it is mine and stays mine!
-
agreed 1. never give that up 2. if you put put it that way, I will happily stand corrected and agree with you. Good insight. 3. I like some of it more than you but some is hard to take, to be sure

I take it that at MSU you are all still on the 2nd grade e-z readers? (you left the door so wide open on that on it would have rude not to come in )
-
I tend to doubt those - crack, as I learned in the client awareness program when I worked in foster care for Catholic Family services, is smoked and Paul would not jeopardize his voice - and it is a very low socio-economic status drug whose only virtue is it is cheap - as for heroin, I can't beleieve that either, having lived to be his age and state of health having always been good and Linda being Ms Natural - and I enevr heard a heroin rumor for Paul - he was always grass - but I would be interested in your following this up - I suspect Paul gave up the bad habits years ago

Ross - beastlyordonez (have you considered the abbreviation for Beastly Ordonez is not pleasant?) - every time I talk to you trouble follows - however - today I take the risk - if no one else got the "please sir, I want some more" line, I did, and I am very impressed that somewhere you encountered literature and/or a great play and movie and remembered the line - and you use it very aptly here - for everyone else it is from Oliver Twist, the book, or Oliver! the musical, and Oliver is in the orphanage and is underfed with all the other orphans and has the audacity to ask, after eating his meager meal, please sir, can I have some more? Instead of more food he gets tossed on the streets and the zaniness begins. the first time I saw that play on stage was with Davy Jones - yes, the Davy Jones of the Monkees and this was preMonkees days - playing Artful Dodger.
-
Paul was always a pot head but I understood he quit that years ago - but crack? I have never heard this.
