  1. I have to say budweiser...I can handle bud light if it is all someone has...but if you have regular budweiser I'll drink water thank you!! Thank GOD miller Is the sox beer!!!
  2. Simple....I lived above Jimbo's when I was a little kid. My grandpa owned that building...I used to be in awe watching the fireworks after homeruns. My dad was a die hard and I followed his lead. We moved from birdgeport when I started grammer school...but I'll always remember watching the fireworks from the fire escape. That's what originally hooked me.
  3. I would say neither party. It's a company that is making them. Sure, political toys aren't going to outsell Harry Potter, Barbie (see BW Online, 2/17/04, "Behind the Barbie-Ken Breakup"), Yu-Gi-Oh!, or the latest holiday kids' craze. But manufacturers are betting that a market exists for political toys, games, and specialty items aimed at both children and grown-ups. KERRY ON DECK. The best of the bunch: A George Bush punching bag by Rocket USA. The "Battling Bush" Bop Bag comes in two versions: a 7-inch inflatable with the Prez in red, white, and blue boxing shorts ($5 suggested retail) and a 46-inch version ($14.95) with a sand-filled base and three-dimesnional, bright-red boxing gloves that squeak when you whack them. Each punching bag has a caricature of Daddy Bush (George H.W.) egging on his son with a hearty, "Go get 'em, Boy!" Rocket USA President Michael C. Perry says he also has a John Kerry punching bag prototype ("Knockout Kerry"), but he's waiting until Kerry clinches the Democratic nomination before rushing it into production. Political junkies will want these products. The art is first-rate. Perry's company clearly knows what it's doing. And it has a track record: It sells other punching bags featuring such American icons as Bozo the Clown and Homer Simpson. http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflas..._1519_db076.htm
  4. Another good story about Tillman...from when he first left the NFL Monday, July 8 Basic training starts for former NFL player -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press FORT BENNING, Ga. -- Former NFL player Pat Tillman is used to pushing his body to the limit with grueling training in the summer heat. This summer, though, he will be sweating it out as an Army recruit. Pat Tillman played four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. Tillman, the 25-year-old starting safety for the Arizona Cardinals, turned down a $3.6 million contract for $18,000 a year and an uncertain quest to become an Army Ranger. Tillman, who has rejected all interview requests to talk about his decision, began basic training Monday at this base in southwest Georgia, joining his younger brother, who enlisted with him. "In Pat Tillman's view of the world, football is a part of it, but there are a lot of other things that are important to him," said Lyle Setencich, Tillman's linebacker coach at Arizona State. Money doesn't seem to be important to him at all. Last year, he turned down a $9 million, five-year offer from the Super Bowl champion St. Louis Rams so he could stay with the perennial losing Cardinals for less money. This year, he turned down the Cardinals three-year, $3.6 million contract to join the Army. "He said there were personal reasons he didn't want to divulge to me, and I didn't press him on it," Cardinals coach Dave McGinnis said. "I respect his decision. I think it's honorable." Observers questioned his sanity, but that's nothing new for Tillman, who used to meditate atop a 200-foot light tower above Arizona State's stadium. "If you don't know Pat, then you would think he's crazy," said Phil Snow, who coached Tillman as Arizona State's defensive coordinator. "The planes flew so close to him that he could damn near reach out and touch them. He's just fearless." “ You don't find guys that have that combination of being as bright and as tough as him. This guy could go live in a foxhole for a year by himself with no food. ” — Phil Snow, talking about Pat Tillman Tillman's decision to attempt to join the Army's elite infantry unit didn't surprise friends. "Pat is the type of person who needs challenges," Arizona State University associate athletic director Mark Brand told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. "When I heard what he was doing, I knew it was perfect." Bored before the 2000 season, he ran a marathon. After setting a franchise record with 224 tackles in 2000, he prepared for last year's training camp by competing in a 70.2-mile triathlon. "You don't find guys that have that combination of being as bright and as tough as him," Snow said. "This guy could go live in a foxhole for a year by himself with no food." Tillman's age may have been a factor in his decision -- the cutoff for the Rangers is 28. Several of Tillman's friends believe the Sept. 11 attacks also had an influence. Setencich attended Tillman's wedding in May and talked with him about the NFL. "He mentioned he might get out of it," Setencich said. "I asked him if he wanted to go to law school and he kind of smiled and said, 'There are a lot of things I can do.' " Tillman's goal to join the Rangers will be difficult. Only 35 percent of all candidates get to wear the coveted black and gold Ranger Tab. Although physical fitness is key, Army training is very different from sports. "Mental toughness separates those that drive on," said retired Ranger Capt. Todd Bearden. "It's being able to get up at 0-dark-30 every morning, doing what needs to be done, then getting up and doing it again. When you take away somebody's sleep and somebody's food and push them to the limit, it changes the dynamics of everything." http://espn.go.com/nfl/news/2002/0708/1403113.html
  5. God Bless Pat!! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4815441
  6. Very Risky Investment!! One rape...one murder...one shooting and the value can drop like that. If something happens and funding drops you're screwed!! It all depends if they can clean up the area...
  7. The Yankees at 9 are a crock....they dont seserve to be there. As for us...does anybody know how many games we have had 10 or more hits???
  8. He is a tough mofo...and what I really loved was Bernie Williams being a totally puss when it comes to a padded wall and then you have Matsui runnin full speed for that foul ball. Who wants it more....
  9. I think that's the first time I heard the sox called a good defensive team... Buerhle has gotten screwed more than any pitcher on this club over the past few years....and he takes it like a man and moves on to his next start. I think Mark will be fine...
  10. Back to the umpiring. The guy had a huge strike zone...but he went both ways so that was cool. If you're gonna call that outside pitch a strike..then do it for both teams and he did. The problem I had was 3rd call strikes...He seem to call those against us and not against the them.... I know you can't blame the game on the ump...and I'm not....the sox made their mistakes.... but I think if Cotts gets out of that inning without the walk,(on that 2-2 or 3-2 pitch he threw a dead strike and didnt' get it) we are tied!!!!! Then everything changes....The yanks start feeling a little more panicked the sox start feelin a little more confident and things start happening. Yeah we got behind the ball early....and Buehrle sucked...but that walk....that f***in gift run....was the play that cost us the game yesterday. By no means do I mean Cotts cost us the game...I just mean there's usually a point in a game where you can look back and see where it happened and for me....that walk did it. Thanks Blue!! :fyou
  11. I will be there Thursday in the bullpen bar!!! I hope to be in line by about 4:00....
  12. Hey steff I'm just rolling with the punches.... When Juggenaut brought up all the maggs stuff...I did some researching myself....so topics kinda switched I can't compare Mags and Frank at all cause I don't think it is the same thing. Mags is in contract year....Frank is signed. I just don't think it is right to complain about a contract or hold out, on something you have signed. I hate when they do it in all sports. YOU signed the contract...how can you now say your not happy?? It just seems only in sports does that kind of stuff fly.
  13. I agree regarding the 20+ contracts, but my point was consistency....Maggs has been there 3 years in a row and the only other peeps that have done that are gettin the big bucks...I'm not saying break the bank...but he is well within reason to get 14 or 15 per. He also has all the upside in the world.
  14. Some numbers that compute!! Mags Salary 2004 Chicago White Sox $ 14,000,000 Outfielder 2003 Chicago White Sox $ 9,000,000 Outfielder 2002 Chicago White Sox $ 6,500,000 Outfielder 2001 Chicago White Sox $ 3,750,000 Outfielder Right now there are 16 players making more than Maggs... I think Maggs is worthy of top 10 top 15 player money....and here's why Going by JUGGERNAUT's RPG stats(I never knew about these...thanks) Which players have been ranked in the top 11 3 years in a row?? Here's who: Manny Ramirez $22,500,000 Alex Rodriguez $22,000,000 Carlos Delgado $19,700,000 Magglio Ordenez $14,000,000 Jason Giambi $12,428,571 Maggs is right in with that group and currently his only company to be in there this year as well, is Giambi and Ramirez. All this and he isn't a roid freak. He isn't a trouble maker in the locker room and he is coming in to his prime. Sing him NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks again for showing me those stats....Consisitency is a big factor when it comes to a long term contract...
  15. Frank Thomas+$$$$$+ sports reporter= 10 page thread = Me Fired!!!!!!!!!! haha...nah it's all good....Machines back up and running!!
  16. I told them to just leave them and go to lunch...but that was at 12:30...so they should be comin back soon.....I really should prolly get up there..... NAH...this is more fun!!
  17. Was that where it originated?? I thought it was from sox fans....we are much harder on our own then any opposing fan could ever be.
  18. Yeah and I have two people staring at blank screens here cause I told them I was too busy to come fix their machines...
  19. Hell yeah it is... ya even had me going back and looking up 10 year old statistics and salaries to strengthen my point....
  20. God knows I agree with you 100% there....Leave the media out of your contract talks... Us common folk don't want to hear about your + 6 million problems. I am of the mindset if ya sign a contract...you should play it out....so I guess that's what gets me the most....that and the fact that it was even discussed right now. Let's get minds off this s*** and back on to winning. Frank isn't a rookie...he shouldn't have let a reporter bait him in to this talk IF indeed that was the case....Oh well...none of us will ever know....
  21. I diasgree... Everytime someone is defending Frank they usually say something along those lines, but I don't see that happening....maybe Frank will hit 50 HR and 130 RBI and we can test it out. I hope so....I just hope he does it quietly.
  22. No offense steff, but I think your blind love for Frank is clouding your thoughts... Maggs is in a contract year....and awards or not...he is a top player in this league...I mean you are now ripping on Mags to defend Franks comments... you see what Frank has brought us too.... Just shut up and play the contract YOU signed....
  23. Frank's Salary rank in the Majors over the years I'm excluding 91-94 when he was getting his feet wet 1995 6th $7,150,000 1st was Cecil Fielder at $9,237,500 1996 4th $7,150,000 1st was Cecil Fielder at $9,237,500 1997 8th $7,150,000 1st was Albert Belle at $10,000,000(also by the sox) 1998 19th $7,000,000 1st was still Belle at $10,000,000 1999 just below 25th $7,000,000 (25th was at $7,550,00) 2000 below 25th $7,100,000 (25th was $8,500,00) 2001 25th $ 9,927,000 2002 $ below 25th 9,927,000(25th was $10,000,000{Schilling}) Frank has always been paid right around the top 30 in the league until now....I see no problem with that....not too mention he signs the contracts.....Does he have a right to say he wants the team to lock him up....yeah I guess, its a free country...but WHY.... WHY make any comments to the papers right now at the beginning of the season. Since 1995 he has made $73,404,000 from the White Sox organization alone, not counting endorsements or any other outside cash. Focus on your game....if you perform you will at the bare minimum make 18 million the next two years.
  24. In case anyone wants the link to the article.... http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/ds.../pro/161sd1.htm This doesn't seem like a cut and paste job to me. Just seems like he wants to end his career here and not have to worry about going anywhere else. He doesn't like the "pay as you go" agreement that he signed. Whether you agree with Frank or not...when will atheletes understand....DO NOT TALK TO REPORTERS REGARDING YOUR CONTRACTS!!!!! There are VERY VERY few fans who will feel any sense of sympathy towards a multi millionaire whining about more millions. In fact, all it usually brings is animosity and a sense of selfishness. Discuss it with your agent, discuss it with Kenny, Jerry whoever....DO NOT get yourself quoted in the paper.
  25. Typical Typical Typical..... I have no choice but to take back my prediction of MVP for Frank. It is all down hill from here. Dammit Frank... always at the beginning of the year.
