I would not discount Bummer as a useful lefty reliever in the playoffs, with a short leash if he shows no control early.

You are right. We need to score more runs so our pen can protect leads. I would have preferred a slugging OF to Kimbrel, because it was a bigger need and could contribute on a daily basis.

Kimbrel trade was a dud. Hahn paid a high price for a luxury nice to have but we already had many good relievers. On the other hand, we needed more help in outfield defense and LH pop. Go afterGallo instead. We have been exposed with guys like Goodwin playing regularly and botching plays in the OF continually.

Our offense has been dead today. In hindsight, we should have traded for a Joey Gallo, instead of Kimbrel. We already had a lot of relievers, but have big holes in the corner outfield defense and needing more LH pop. Eloy D today was not good on short fly balls and Goodwin was his usual self, failing to catch the 3 run double. Engel or Hamilton could have possibly have caught it. Vaughn a bid dud offensively with RSVP again. This game today is an embarrassment. TA should try to shake the cobwebs out of our guys with his leadership.

Why was Ruiz brought in the first place? Crochet was pitching fairly well. Low fastballs in the zone to lefties go a long way, particularly on a 0-2 count and with Goodwin in RF. Terrible pitching by Ruiz.

TLR can now relax, he has shown Barry Bonds type respect to Cruz, even though he is only hitting .198 with the Rays since his acquisition.

When Sox scored 2 runs in the 8th to make it 6-4, he stuck with a AAA pitcher,Wright,who promptly gave back the 2 runs. 4. no effort to come back not only leaving Wright in the 8 th. But not pinch hitting for Mendick and Lamb in the 9 th. I don’t say TLR cost us the game, but he sure looked like he punted with the lineup he put up.

Mendick and Goodwin were particularly bad.

We supposedly have one of the best bullpens in the league , score two runs and then leave a AAA pitcher in the 8th to give it right back. TLR only wants to use our best relievers when we are ahead. We need to keep close games close so we can come back.
