Twinkies vs. White (hot) Sox TV: WCIU RADIO: WSCR 670
greg775 replied to 2nd_city_saint787's topic in 2009 Season in Review
Oz obviously is pissed he has to pencil in Rios' name in the lineup two of every three nights. He could be quietly rebelling. Not to pile on Rios, but if you are Oz and your job is to make the postseason, you can't be too happy with Alex right now. The guy has hit worse than most pitchers. Just saying Oz has the right to be pissed at Rios. -

Could you say the same for CQ? Oh, he has the injury excuse, I forgot. If Jimmy was having an MVP year we wouldn't have shipped hiim. Couldn't Jimmy have had MVP numbers? You can't just blame Dye. There's plenty of double play blame to go around. Plus the bullpen has been absolutely horrrendous. We can't win a series from anybody right now and it's not just JD's fault. He's probably the No. 1 guy to blame but what if we picked up Rios and he went crazy at the plate? What if Gordon continued his sizz and just kept blasting the s*** out of the ball? What if Lexi just went nuts and kept getting big hit after big hit? Dye is a big time goat, but so is the defense, the bullpen, the baserunning, etc. -
Sox currently 17th best team in MLB by record
greg775 replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That was an awesome rant. I laughed at the "I hate this team." Was your last sentence supposed to be in green? If not you are the classic "Wait til next year" kind of guy. Sometimes next year is a lot worse, just ask the Royals. Not saying it will be, but KW is gonna have his work cut out, especially with the Rios/Peavy contracts possibly hindering some other moves. -
That was a darn good article, though it didn't address the bullpen much. Sounds like Peavy will be a welcome addition in terms of the passion he shows. Interesting the guy called him a No. 2 pitcher, however, not No. 1 in the Cell. On paper we'll be considered contenders again. But this time, some guys have to really come through. Some guys have to emerge in the bullpen. If we get rid of Bobby, that means we need even more set up guys with Matt the closer. Our offense is so bad, I don't think we can magically assume it's going to be better just because we will be 0-0 in April and starting over. A good start will be reassigning Walker, not cause it will matter, but we need to make some changes. I hope they don't boot him from the whole organization. I hope he gets to keep a job. s***, make him the third base coach and get rid of that hack waving runners home only to get gunned down.

Zambrano: Sox One of Three Teams He Would Go To
greg775 replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Rude, I'm past hating Rios. I'm just concerned that he really truly isn't very good at the plate. I don't like the idea of him in our lineup next year. Hope it just was an off year, but watching him bat (like watching Jermaine) is excruciatingly painful. Aren't you also pained to see Alex bat? I hope it indeed is just a one-year thing. Yes he appears to be a good defensive player and if we can add some offense in other areas, it'll be nice to have a glove in center. -

It's true that Quentin looks like a spastic up there. If that's how he plans on battng in the future God help him and us fans. If Dye gets two strikes on him ... he's gone. He'll wave at anything in the dirt. I don't know if Walk could help them, but I hope he at least addressed both matters in conversation with them. Both are indeed lost. -
I don't know why I assumed a white person would yell the N word at Bradley. I would think Bradley would see if there were any black fans in the area of the taunts and would point that out if there was a chance it was a black person yelling the crap. Seriously though ... if this racist stuff is true, that means people in 2009 are yelling the N word at a person in a public place?? With no repercussions? I would be very uncomfortable if some ass in my section was yelling the N word at African American players on my team or the other team. I'd want an usher.

Is this the #1 Reason for our 2nd half debacle
greg775 replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
LOL at Belize. But true. In a perfect world, we'd have Granderson on our team (I realize he has had a bad on base percentage year) as well as Bartlett. We could have Gordo at third, Bartlett at short, Lexi at second and Paulie at first. Wow. Grandy would be the cure to our leadoff woes forever. My point is we still need a couple major upgrades in our lineup. I truly think Lexi should move to second and we need a new ss. We need another productive outfielder. I'd prefer to see Rios and Jermaine gone. Bring back Thome to DH. We need a productive backup catcher. We really do. Can't we rush Danks and acquire a Grandy-type outfielder?? Make it happen. This is Chicago! -

greg775 replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Z: Considered insane. Bradley: Hated by teammates and a headcase. Rios: Supposedly lazy. Bring 'em all in!! Just kidding. But I wouldn't mind getting Zambrano if we could dump Alex's salary. Didn't somebody do a long story on him being a Sox fan? Admittedly I haven't read enough about Z's problems. I know he kicks the s*** out of the dugout, etc. Is he considered that bad a guy? Just curious. And that is wild the pitching coach would go off like that. Wow. -
This racist stuff is really really bad. There's a story in the Trib online tonight where Bradley's mom said he was concerned his 3 year old heard racist comments. Are Cub fans animals? This racist stuff is really bad and sad. I mean what are they yelling at Bradley?? If they are calling him the N word, they should be removed immediately and prosecuted. What other racist chants are there?? The charge could be inciting a riot or something. Or they should be banned from all Cub games forever.

Good point and reminder to me. I do read those quotes online and like the fact they take responsibility. But when the team makes so many gaffes I'd think Jerry might once in a blue moon remind the media he loves those two in charge and the players better get it together. Then again, the modern ballplayer probably doesn't care if the owner is pissed at them. They can go get a job with another team if they are veterans with track records. -

Then I wish Jerry would speak up more and blast the players or something and remind everybody of Oz's and KW's excellence. It doesn't hurt to remind the lumbering players that the boss fully supports the top two guns. I don't want KW or Oz to leave ever. I'm just saying at some point the guys in charge are the ones who should be booed. Oz and KW should be moderately ashamed at some of these performances the second half. -

1.) The offense, led by Dye's s***tiness and total inability to get key hits. I am amazed at how many balls in the dirt a proven big leaguer like Jermaine flails at. It's unbelievable how bad he's gotten. Dye really should be embarrassed. Haven't read any stories examining his failure and why he can't get it turned around this time. Extra BP? No extra BP? That's No. 1. And Rios shouldn't get a free pass just cause he's good on defense. My god, if you want defense, Anderson could patrol center and hit .155. Yes Rios has a track record,Brian doesn't blah blah blah. Brian also made pennies compared to Rios' zillions. 2.) The Bullpen. The bullpen has sucked. 3.) The defense. I'm tempted to make this No. 1. You have to have better defense. 4.) Key blunders in games that mattered. Pods' getting picked off; very dumb calls by the 3B coach, just very stupid gaffes that hurt the team. It's been said many times on here what a dumb team we are. 5.) Station to station baseball. In the past the homers have been awesome. This year it seems to me we've hit into more DPs rather than blasts over the fence and off the wall. Like fathom said, maybe this team just isn't this good, with only a couple players overachieving. WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR! (maybe) -

Walker should flip flop jobs with somebody in the organization. Let him keep a job somewhere, but make a change at hitting coach for change's sake. Is Buddy Bell a candidate? I really don't think it'll matter much but it's time for change for change sake. The new hitting coach will be the scapegoat if we suck at the plate again. But these cliches in baseball must be addressed from time to time and with the Sox, it's time. I love Oz, but nobody in baseball has a lifetime contract. We have a lot of "name" position players and pitchers and on paper shouldn't be this bad. I prefer to blame the players but it's his team. If the team sucks again next year, I'd suspect the Oz era may be in jeopardy. I guess the fans may keep coming out. I'd think some ticket holders might be reconsidering unless they just love going out to the Cell each and every summer. So many of these home games have been hitting disasters. I would think some of these fans would pass on a repeat of these type games next year. -

Boos for Dye and the whole team. This is starting to reflect on Oz. Our team is disgracefully bad. I don't know if it'll help, but they do need to replace Walker. Can't bring back the same crew. Maybe the team mentally checked it in after their pal, Big Jimmy, got shipped out of town. Whatever it is, this team is sickeningly bad right now. -

Twins get runner on third, automatic sac fly. Me thinks we better improve on fundamentals next year like moving runners ourselves or Oz before too long may be on the hot seat. -

Carrasco's pitches are screaming "hit me" tonight. (Stoney just said "every time we've made a mistake tonight the Twins have taken advantage; fastballs, wild pitches, errors, they don't overswing; the Twins take what you give 'em. And they haven't made any mistakes. That's the difference in the teams." -

They said Hudson was poised and had good stuff. He needs badly to develop one more pitch. His error was horrible, they indicated, but he'll learn from that. -

Hudson did pretty well; drawing praise from Stoney and Hawk. Maybe our staff will be studly next year, but the defense has gotta be improved and hitting with men on base. We get more hits that turn out to be meaningless cause we can't string any together. -

Since we've become a horses*** team the last several weeks, how many double plays have we hit into? Seems like tons. This is hell. No matter who the opponent is it's the same story. -
