2 runs on Paul F'IN Bryd
What kills me is that Jose pitched freaking brilliant and picked up the loss. Me too. I think it's a very critical loss cause it was the type of game we normally win and need to win. Game where our starting pitching was great. We had to squeeze out four runs to win this one. A couple big hits and we'd be forgetting the bunt snafus. But it is very disheartening to not win on a night Jose gave us that effort!

It's frustrating when guys can't lay down a bunt. I disagree with bunting there right after the error, but I know why Oz did it. It would help when he calls the bunt the player lays it down successfully. They "practice" it every day; guys like AROW and Pods who are not reincarnations of Babe Ruth, have to lay it down when asked. I still say we were flat; will it end up killing us? Who knows? I agree going to Anaheim 0-2 is a recipe for a quick exit. GO SOX!

I have never seen a bigger disadvantage in the dugout with Scioscia absolutly raping Ozzie. --Oh and by the way, you wouldn't be saying this if somehow Paulie had connected in the eighth for a home run. You'd be deliriously happy like the rest of us! He didn't. We lost. s*** happens. We were flat. Sucks.

I was afraid we would come out flat. Here in Ks. everybody all day was saying how unfair it was for the Angels to have to travel all this much. That took the pressure off them. Nobody expected them to win. Hope we can get the fire back cause we aren't the lovable underdogs this series. That feeble bunt try by Aaron was not good right after the error at 3B. It wasn't our night for crispness, tho what a great effort by Contreras!

Colon Gone
We got to find a way to beat a guy like Byrd. He ain't Don Drysdale but he could beat us.

Yahoo article bashing WSox
actually my bet is Litke will write you back; i've met the guy and he is OK, though I agree that article was horses***. So what if there's no white sox nation. There are plenty of cool stories on the south side, diehard fans living in Mt. Greenwood, Beverly in the old mansions, etc., who live and die with their Sox. Screw you mr. Litke. Enjoy the same ol stories; the country is getting Sox vs. Angels; nice little series between the also rans (Dodgers dominate media and fandom there; Cubs here).

ALCS.........
Can we hit their pitching? How would yu rate our starters vs. theirs??

Da Coach
I still give Ditka a pass. I love that guy. It's not like he is saying we suck or he wants us to lose. I hope he wears the Sox jersey and hope our owner gets him tickets if he wants 'em. Ditka is a god, small g. Until the Bears won that title, Chicago really was a city of losers without a title in oh, so long. Of course Mike Jordan changed that big time. Go SOX!

ALCS.........
Seriously, how do we match up with these guys? Can we defeat them? What are the odds of us winning in your estimation?

When is the ALCS Starting
The AP story also says we play Tuesday. My question is: Fox is showing both on TV at the same time??? What the frick? Here's the ap story: White Sox in waiting mode for next round AP Photos ILJR101-105 By RICK GANO AP Sports Writer CHICAGO (AP) — The tense days of late September when they were fighting to keep what they’d held all season — first place — seemed far away Sunday when the Chicago White Sox stepped into the cool air and warm sun for a workout. Manager Ozzie Guillen announced his rotation for the ALCS that will begin Tuesday. And then reflecting the loose atmosphere he has nurtured all season, he picked up a bat and stepped into the box during a simulated game with young right-hander Brandon McCarthy on the mound. That he went 0-for-2 didn’t matter. After sweeping the defending World Series champion Red Sox in the division series and taking a day off, the White Sox were hoping to stay sharp, not knowing or caring too much if their next opponent is the Yankees or the Angels. “The day off, we needed it mentally and physically. We have played with so much intensity the last three weeks,” Guillen said. His team nearly squandered a 15-game lead before hanging on to win the AL Central wire-to-wire. If there is a Game 5 in Anaheim on Monday, the Angels-Yankees winner would at least be air weary from flying from coast-to-coast and then back to the middle of the country. “I don’t worry about stuff I can’t control. Whoever is coming is coming,” Guillen said. “We’ll do our part. Whatever happens on either side.” Jose Contreras will start Game 1 Tuesday just as he pitched the opener against the Red Sox. And Mark Buehrle will again pitch Game 2 at U.S. Cellular Field. But when the series shifts to either New York or Anaheim for the middle three games, Guillen will use 18-game winner Jon Garland in Game 3 with Freddy Garcia in Game 4. The White Sox were 3-3 against New York and 4-6 against the Angels. Garland didn’t start against Boston, so he will be pitching on nearly two weeks rest. That’s why he and the talented rookie McCarthy — who was again left off the roster — were throwing to batters Sunday in simulated games along with relievers Damaso Marte and Luis Vizcaino. “Jose, we don’t want him to have too many days off,” Guillen said. “If we start Garland the first game, we hurt three guys. I know it’s not fair for Gar to have that much time off. ... It’s not my fault we won in three games. It’s a good thing we did. This kid pitched his heart out for us. Sometimes you have to make a decision you don’t want to.” Garland didn’t seem too upset about another wait, but as a sinker ball pitcher, he acknowledged that some of his best stuff often comes with he’s a weary, rather than fresh. “Usually my best pitchers are when I’m tired on a regular five days. That’s when it’s good,” he said. “We’ll see how it goes.” Guillen also said Sunday he had a conversation with the erratic left-hander Marte, who struggled in Game 3, loading the bases with a single and two walks. “We need this kid. I think he’s the only player on my roster I worry about,” Guillen said. Orlando Hernandez, who pitched out of a no-outs bases loaded jam that Marte created in Game 3, kept his spot in the bullpen for the second round —to no one’s surprise. “What he did was phenomenal. We all knew at the moment how big it was,” pitching coach Don Cooper said Sunday. “I think it’s getting bigger every day.” The 22-year-old McCarthy, bumped off the playoff staff by the veteran Hernandez whom he’d replaced in the rotation late in the season, said he’s thrilled for the guy who beat him out. “I was really happy for him, watching him go out there and be the El Duque you remember watching growing up,” McCarthy said. “He’s such a competitor.”

Jermaine Dye to 1B
We need Paulie. We can't keep subtracting power guys from our team and not have it show up in the standings. I see no need we keep Everett around, but keep Paulie.
-
Da Coach
I wonder if he's more a sox fan than Cub fan. I actually can picture him being one of the rare few who actually like both. I can't see him ever being called a bandwagon guy. He is DITKA!

what are your superstitions?
I have a really wierd one. I want to video tape every White Sox playoff game BUT every Bears game I have taped, they land up losing it ..... so I have decided not to tape anymore.....it sure has helped in this 1st series but it is so focking difficult when you see them perform so well and you cannot save it for posterity That is so cool. You are taking one for the team! Nice job. Sometimes I find it difficult to watch when we are not at bat but I remind myself nothing I am doing can affect the outcome of the game, so I try to enjoy it. It was tough the last 3 weeks of the regular season, though. It was killing me watching us lose all those games with Cleve winning. It's cool none of us completely gave up on the Sox during those awful times. Most of us kept saying if we can somehow hang on, perhaps we'll regain the magic in the postseason.

WE NEED KONERKO NEXT YEAR!
We can't afford to lose him like you all said. We can't keep losing guys who can whack it out of the park.
-
Bandwagon Jumpers
Great post. It is great to know we've been with the Sox for so many years and now we're enjoying it the most. Man if we could make the World Series we'll really be on cloud nine. I mean we deserve eight more wins. After all, we rooted for this team with Clayton, Todd Ritchie. We deserve wins!

AND THATS A WHITE SOX PLAYOFF WINNER
Thanks Big Ed Walsh. I read your post and enjoyed it. Now tell us about Cisco Carlos, Hoyt Wilhelm, Bill Nahorodny and Jim Essian! Thanks again.

El Duque as set up man...
Keep Duque and Marte; drop Viz. After what Duque did today is there any reason to use Viz? No. but we may need marte to face a lefty.
-
EL DUQUE = HERO!!!
The best part is I had to argue about KEEPING El Duque on the playoff roster on the thread on this message board a week ago. And. This. Is. WHY. El Duque is Mr. October. Great job by you and great job by KW and Oz keeping him on the roster instead of Brandon, whose future is in front of him.
-
How does this affect PK contract?
We can't afford to let another slugger go. Our payroll is in the 70s, We can afford him. We can't lose Maggs, Lee, Hurt and Konerko in the span of a couple seasons. GO SOX!

AND THATS A WHITE SOX PLAYOFF WINNER
Big Ed Walsh, Were you a big Gary Peters, Joel Horlen Pete Ward fan? Give us some stories bout those guys if ya would.

The Game 1 Starter is...
It's so key he pitches well (duh). If he could win and take us into Jose and Mark B, that would be great. Hope he's well rested and kicks ass.
