The choke avatars were distasteful. It is amazing how Cleveland has tanked, ran out of gas or whatever. Thank goodness that guy dropped the flyball versus the Royals and lowly KC got the final game of that series. Hopefully we'll be loose playing Boston. They are the defending champs and most media will expect them to smoke our ass.

I agree that this is the toughest call in a long time and why KW and Oz take the heat when moves backfire. It seems to me El's postseason experience is one of the big reasons we got him. I think he should be on the roster especially the way he was celebrating with Contreras after the win. If Contreras' heart isn't in it, we could be hosed in the postseason. Brandon's time is next year. Go with Duke.

I'll be honest guys. I don't really care who wins tomorrow's game. I wanted to win this series to eliminate any possibility of any "backing in" talk. We are going in to the playoffs with the best record in the AL and stared adversity in the face and didn't blink. You said it. The playoffs ain't gonna be easy. We need to win both home games vs. Boston to start that puny 5-game series. If we lose one, we could be toast against the world champs.

I will grant you gload is better than timo and blum; no argument here. I think he's a better hitter than ozuna too, but he still ain't no stud IMO.

There was nothing to the avatar beyond the diminishing lead of the White Sox. But since people were showing their displeasure, it stood up. the sun times isn't any better with mariotti's daily flip flops in opinions. i used to get the sun times delivered, but had to cancel it last week when mariotti's writing hit an all time low when he bashed hawk for sounding like a pig after crede's hr. Today's Mariotti column already was trying to do a slow backtrack. Should be interesting now how the papers play it. Generally when a city's team makes the playoffs, wins the division, etc., it catches the attention of the "newsside" people who want to celebrate and rightly so. They come up with catchy headlines and stories that actually support the team. Well ... contrast those types of stories that we're about to see with Mariotti's rants. Remember just yesterday he was blasting the Sox and saying even if we "somehow" back in what fun will it be to get swept? I wonder if he'll praise us now???? GO SOX.

Good post smalls. My grandfather followed every pitch as well. Hopefully they'll get to watch some of the playoffs on big-screen TV up yonder. s*** what's heaven without postsason Sox baseball?

On ESPN they just said that the White Sox were just the 10th team in the history of baseball(can that be right?) to be in first place every day of the season. --Maybe Mariotti can write about that. Maybe the much maligned Ozzie can take pride in the fact he's one of 10 managers (assuming nobody did it more than once) to lead ever day of the season. congrats Ozzie, White Sox and Sox fans around the globe. I just don't like the way he appears to relish in the Sox's perceived choke and his calling them the "Wheeze Sox." The team has won 95 games I believe and just might still win the division. You would think he would praise the team for its perseverance if the sox do hold on. I understand not wanting to be a homer but the other papers haven't been as vicious while not being homers. The Southtown guy explained that uh cleveland deserves some credit as well. My point is as a chicago columnist he might want to explore some other angles a bit. The choke thing is pretty sub-basic and growing old. I mean OK jay the team may get swept and killed in the playoffs if the team gets in. So f***ing what? A chicago team will be in the playoffs. It almost seems like he wants the team to move from the city to another town. That would be good for nobody, not him, not his paper, not the city. Don't want him to be a homer, just write like the other papers. Couch, for instance, has done a nice job criticiziing in the Sun Times but not being a simplistic moron-otti. I do want to hear his answer to the question: 'How come every time the team loses he writes the choke column,' and when they win he writes nothing? I prefer the Southtown, Trib columnists and the Herald. And Jay, I like Hawk Harrelson too. He is damn good announcer.

I've said for a while now the sad part of our second half freakishness is that I have just wanted the season to end with the Sox somehow holding onto the top spot. that is contrary to my normal belief that the last day of the season is the worst day of the year and Opening Day the best day of the year. I've hated having to just wish for the end of the season with us a game on top.

The way this maddening stretch run has been going (not taking any easy route) we will lose tomorrow and have to consider all the possibilities again JUST WIN SOX! WRAP UP THIS DIVISION AGAINST THE HORSEs*** TIGERS! PAULIE, CARL, JERMAINE ... do the job veterans do. Just win the game. And good luck.

At the moment, I think Cleveland is choking more than Chicago Great win, Sox. (Why does it always have to be about "choking?" Cleveland has had a hellacious team since the all star break and we had a hellacious team the first half. Is it all about simply choking? I vote that it's baseball, the wildest sport there is, not choking.

You can't tell me that having Blum hit in the 8th doesn't get the players talking about what this guy is doing. Was it Oz's fault that Crede couldn't attend the game for family matters and KW got him Ozuna and fricking Blum and Widger and Timo and stiffs like that as his bench? Oz is not god to me but I agree I'm sick of fathom's blaming him for everything. The fact we have been consistently getting beat by Det's and KC's and all the teams that have been beating our ass the past 7 weeks makes me think we miss Frank and Maggs and played over our heads. Garland has sucked also and Fred and Mark haven't been as good. Is Oz to blame for all that????? If Oz goes to Florida we should hire Piniella ... wait, he'd command too much money and our owner and co owners or whatever the hell we have up top won't pay for Piniella. Oz has done a good job IMO and I'm as sick as anybody about not being able to beat miserable Detroit the past 2 nights with everything on the line!

Well, OG sucks as a manager. He can't manage, which is a large part of the job. He is, on the other hand, a tremendous cheerleader. He'd easily be the captain of the pep squad if they were to create one. You really believe this collection of talent we have was worthy of winning 94 games without a good manager? Tough crowd.

Lets see how well they handle a little pressure. Uh, they handled pressure pretty well at the Cell beating our ass two of three.
