  1. Sox probably should stop bunting always. We can't give away outs with at bats like Avila had.
  2. Bunting is a very difficult art. Royals announcers mocking the Sox not moving runners. Way to get it down, Sanchez. Means nothing if we don't get the clutch hit. I'm ready for a wild pitch.
  3. Nice hit by Laurie. Fans are into it.
  4. Get a better plan for Orlando in the final 16 games vs. KC please. Once-red hot Sox trying to eke out one win on the home turf vs red-hot KC. Hawk is right about it only matters "when" you play teams. We look like a crap ballclub. Time to salvage one of three.
  5. Finally Melky returns to hitting singles. He should be the old Melky who was hitting singles and .320. He has no power; so give us singles. f*** you (Ace, laugh) Ventura. That may be all we get today so make 3 runs stand?
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2016 -> 07:36 PM) Looked like a double off the bat. KC is awesome at positioning. Perfect scouting. We have no chance vs. these guys til we get many more better players. They know exactly what the Sox are going to do at all times. That was a base hit easily taken away cause of scouting.
  7. QUOTE (SpankyEaton @ May 22, 2016 -> 04:52 AM) Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I was thinking of a few things regarding the attendance today when I was at the park. First off, there were 27,631 people there today. It was a beautiful day and it was a Saturday day game against a divisional opponent that travels well and the Cubs were out of town. Given that the park holds 40,000, what do you all think is a good crowd, considering the upper deck doesn't ever fill up on a consistent basis? I think anything north of 25,000 is a good day at the ballpark. If they could average 25,000 that is respectable. I did wonder what you all thought about giving fans in the upper deck the opportunity to come down and sit in the empty 100 level seats after the third inning of games when it's not sold out or the lower bowl is a decent size crowd. Does that negatively impact anything? Does it cause a problem with the value of tickets if they did this once in a while? And, I saw this article today - some cool history here and it's nice to see both parties get something done for a change. Do you see the Sox ever having an issue like this come up again with new ownership and having to move? It doesn't work bringing the fans in the upper tank down to the expensive seats. Once a person in an expensive seat sees in the second inning he has some room to spread out, he doesnt want some family coming down and cramping him. my take.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 21, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) Haha Wayne Allen root. Trump also traveled with epstein But Bernie didn't! he's not a SOCIALIST people, he's a Democratic socialist. Big difference. Why can we as a nation all get behind Bernie. He's the one candidate people could get behind for his likeability and trustworthiness. Let's work with Bernie and make America great again. Bernie is somebody we could be proud of. Hillary? Cmon every time we see her the next 8 years we'll think of snake oil salesman. Trump? Every time we think of him we'll think of this nutjob could press the button and end the world. Bernie?? Get him a great Veep and let him rock n roll.
  9. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 21, 2016 -> 10:39 PM) It's the scouting. While the Sox may have good luck finding young pitching, everything else in the scouting department is beyond terrible. Amen, brother. Scouting blows. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 21, 2016 -> 10:52 PM) The new clubhouse energy really did a lot to put that 8th inning in Texas behind them. How many players on this team have ever played for an over .500 club? Melky and Robertson? Amen, brother. As a fan is it asking too much to shake off a loss like that and bounce back quickly? Thanks White Sox for predictably going in the tank after the almighty Robin/Scott Carroll choke job. Way to pick up your manager, Lawrie, Frazier, Rollins, even Abreu and Melky and Avila. Pathetic.
  10. Why even keep stats at spring training? They are so f***ing misleading. Didn't Rollins hit four home runs, smash a bash of extra base hits and hit about .320? Did Abreu crush 4-5 homers? Nobody ever looks at pitchers ST stats. Please, baseball statiticians, stop keeping stats in spring training!
  11. I know I'm repeating myself but for emphasis ... -- These Mental midgets quit after Robin put Carroll in the Texas game with five run lead. You just can't come back from a loss like that when you have mental midgets. The leaders who attacked the LaRoche situation with zeal are sitting back as we lose game after game. Wasn't Lawrie 0-fer-20 before the hit today? Sale was apparently unwilling to turn over a food spread or kick some ass internally like Paulie always also failed to do. Team turned into a pathetic team after the Carroll/Robin choke vs. Texas. No retaliation for Lawrie getting hit in his first at bat of the series?? Obviously was sent to send a message. Message delivered. SWEEP. -- The Central Division advance scouts (ESPECIALLY KC's) know the Sox so well it's so easy for the Royals and their collection of mediocre pitchers to mow down the White Sox. Remember last year's season series would have been even worse had the Sox not beaten KC in five of the last six meaningless meetings. We stand no chance against Ace Ventura so this homestand has been just plain pathetic. Our advance scouts must be the worst in the division. -- Our hitting philosophy has been bad since the last two years of Walker. And we no longer hit home runs. Lack of power in the Cell means we're gonna be a bad home team again. WOW.
  12. Everybody asks me, give me specifics why you don't like Hillary. Greg has no specifics. Well here's ANOTHER column explaining why I despise her. How do you folks justify voting for her after reading this? And what do you think about Bill flying on that plane? I know I know. The article is full of lies. Blah blah blah. When are some Hillary supporters going to realize where there's smoke there's a blaze around the corner? It's Bernie time, baby. http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2016/05/20/...an-titanic.html
  13. QUOTE (SpankyEaton @ May 21, 2016 -> 04:35 AM) Let me just say that there are significant holes - catcher, relief and starting pitching to say the least. The Sox also need a home run bat and lack some power. Abreu is not feared and everyone is in a slump right now. They need some home runs, more consistent pitching and guys to wake the f*** up. They need to win at least six of the next 11 to stay in this thing...it could be a huge blow if they perform poorly. Long term, guys like Jackson, both catchers, Latos, some relievers and a few others will go and they'll need to add again. I almost feel like they need to spend like crazy next offseason in free agency or make some moves to get younger and shake things up. It's still "early," but this is getting ugly. I'm going tomorrow and hope that Gonzalez doesn't get lit up. Cleveland, with its good manager, is tied with us in the loss column. It all starts over right now. It's pretty bad when you are at home finally and go 1-3 and are lucky to win the one. Tonight the bases loaded and one out in the second off a stiff like Gee, you got to get a big hit not one paltry run. Pathetic 4-1 loss with trouble abrewin' tomorrow and Sunday. And why didn't Q hit one of the Royals in retaliation?? WTF right there.
  14. QUOTE (shipps @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) Maybe if airlines starting charging for carry-on's INSTEAD of charging for check-in bags we can alleviate people having all these damn bags for carry-on and lines will go a hell of a lot faster. I actually have the size carryon that a carryon was designed to be. It's basically a hard duffel bag. Not one of those real long duffel bags, either. Bigger than a briefcase of course. It can fit shirts up to six days, only one pair of alternate pants. Six days worth of sox, underwear, one pair of shoes (now it's getting tight), dob-kit for bathroom stuff. Those f***ing pieces of luggage designed as carryons are the problem. It's funny cause on SW Airlines I pay extra to get in the A group. Usually if I am, let's say, A-40 (out of 60) you'll get on the plane and the first 10 or more rows each have three of those huge luggage carryons in each bin. Filled. If I can't get the exit row (just one exit row on SW now is roomier than any other rows) then I take the aisle around the exit row even with a good number. But the luggage companies creating those "carry-ons" have caused the havoc. I have proven u can fit a lot of s*** in a regular duffel carryon.
  15. Batting him second is downright dumb. No reason for it. How bout fourth and keep him there every game of his Sox career. I can't believe Paulo Orlando beat us tonight. We play them 19 times. Bad to see him get confidence in Game One of 19. Cain also raked. We are in trouble. I look for Moose to be a problem tomorrow.
  16. Is Reiter the guy who hosts a radio show on FOX sometimes?
  17. QUOTE (whitesox91403 @ May 21, 2016 -> 05:15 AM) I don't post much but as much as I want to say we're done, I think this team showed too much in April/early May to just suddenly go bad. As soon as they won last night I felt like tonight would be a loss. The next 6 games are going to be very crucial. I'm on the ledge but they did so many things right and showed to be good enough to think they'll get thru this. Fingers crossed. One big problem. This season is just how the bullpen has gone the last several seasons. Pretty good early then rotten. The bullpen was lights out early. Albers was having the kind of year the Royals bullpen guys have had. Now he is meat. Our other guys were fine and David R was unhittable. Really the only one worth a s*** now is David. And the starting pitching has come down to earth. When we were winning every series, almost every game, we had four starters who were all way above average. Now we got two starters doing well and poor Q's outing tonight was reminiscent of last year's outings vs. KC. Good only two times through the order. We shall see. I'm worried about lack of power in the lineup and the pitching.
  18. QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 21, 2016 -> 03:31 AM) All of a sudden, that Robin extension talk looks ridiculous. You can survive a bad week, but a bad fortnight is a lot of bad. Thing is ... Sox played so well for such a long period of time (six weeks is a long period of great baseball) it looked like we had a special team. We were rattling off win after win, even without scoring many runs. Now loss after loss. It's true, though, the adage that it's all about the players. At 23-10 Robin looked like a genius, confidently making out the lineup and making the right calls. When the bullpen reeks and nobody can hit a home run cept Frazier and only 2 starters are godly, then the manager looks like a bozo.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2016 -> 08:44 PM) As a White Sox fan I would like to request a media moratorium on one specific thing. Can we quit asking White Sox players questions about the Cubs. For example, last night in the midst of the post game interviews where Chris Sale became the first White Sox pitcher to go 9-0 in his first 9 starts since Eddie Cicotte in 1919, someone asked him about Jake Arrieta. Why? Why not ask him about Chris Sale? Or someone in the American League? It is lazy journalism on behalf of the sports journalists in Chicago for their White Sox related questioning to keep coming back to the Cubs. Stop it. It is insulting and irrelevant. Especially when the White Sox have nothing to do with the Cubs. They aren't in the same division or league, and they aren't playing each other. It is my direct challenge to the sports writers and broadcasters of Chicago to step up their game and actually come up with some relevant questions for Chicago White Sox staff and players. That is a great post. ... The only positive is I for some stupid reason thought the Sox were actually motivated to keep winning at an amazing clip as sort of a slap in the Cubs face. Obviously that was dumb of me to think the Cubs mattered to the Sox. Good post. I agree with what you wrote. It is lazy. I mean when we play the Cubs, fine, ask about Arietta and Bryant then.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2016 -> 12:34 AM) KC is 21-7 their last 28 games at USCF. But it was just 6-4 last year. Yes but we swept a meaningless 3 game series late vs. KC. It was 6-1 before that. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2016 -> 12:44 AM) Our percentage of scored runs out of total situations with the bases loaded has to be in the Bottom 5 of the major leagues. probably added to that frustration. When the Sox are the real Sox (not the team that started 23-10) it seems they waste so many run scoring situations. QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2016 -> 01:06 AM) Home run total for the team is plummeting compared to other teams. Near the bottom of the AL This is huge, folks!! You've got to whack a lot of home runs to win. Only way we were gonna survive that was with the big four pitching as they did during our amazing April, first week of May). Sale, Q, Rodon and Latos were lights out! Had me dreaming of a WS vs. the Cubs. QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2016 -> 01:50 AM) Q has fallen apart here. This team is in a horrible funk Mental midgets since Robin brought in Carroll. If Carroll isn't on this team, I don't think we blow a 5-run lead with six outs to go. As expected, that was the season (til the Sox prove otherwise). QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 21, 2016 -> 02:00 AM) This isn't surprising though at least to me. This is what we do. Make s***ty pitchers look like CY Young winners. Year after year it seems that is always the case. Chen, all those stiffs the Twins trot out against us (prior to this year and half of last year). QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 21, 2016 -> 02:06 AM) Royals are the Sox daddy and there's all there is to it. Sucks that the Sox are a mess right now because KC is playing better and Cleveland is hot right now. They'll be in first by Monday Surprised nobody mentioned the Royals showing their supremacy by hitting their hated nemesis, Lawrie. Royals beaned him and said in effect, "f*** you Lawrie. f*** you White Sox. We are here to sweep your ass." Of course we didn't immediately retaliate. IMO the Royals won the series when they hit Lawrie and set the tone of WS champ beating the first place pretenderes. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 21, 2016 -> 02:49 AM) Where is the fire and passion we heard about so much when we were winning? So far mental midgets since the Texas disaster. The LaRoche haters need to turn over the dinner table. QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2016 -> 02:50 AM) Been all downhill since the 8th inning from hell How can anybody argue with Fathom on this? Mr. Sale? Please lead us and kick some clubhouse ass. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ May 21, 2016 -> 02:59 AM) I doubt this team is this bad, just really frustrating to see after the hot start. True. I think we all hate to see us blow the big lead so quickly ... even though, seriously, the standings mean LITTLE to nothing until mid July for goshsakes. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ May 21, 2016 -> 03:13 AM) Scot Gregor ‏@scotgregor 56s56 seconds ago Bizarre scene as #WhiteSox lose to Royals 4-1. After taking called third to end it, Eaton goes after Wendelstedt, restrained by Ventura. I have a pet peeve tonight. I watched the game (sparing you my angry commentary on purpose) tonight and the Sox were b****ing about strikes. That pitch Frazier b****ed about was a f***ing strike. That last pitch to Eaton was a f***ing strike. I love Adam, but hey, swing at a pitch that close with two strikes. I do not think the ump was that bad. My own obsesrvation ... I despised Melky last year, but when he was hitting .320 I was pushing for him to bat second. Still wouldn't mind him there. Folks ... having Abreu bat second is just stupid and silly. I read the entire game thread and commented on the posts that intrigued me. I really feel I'm right on my posts. Comments?
  21. QUOTE (Tex @ May 20, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) The economy was pretty damn good while he was President. Naming potential cabinet appointees and top advisers does the public a great service. It allows the voters a greater glimpse into what that candidate's administration would look like. I appreciate that transparency. Now, what do you think Trump could have his spouse do? Who cares about Trump? He's a rich clown who also needs to go away. That article I posted really blasted Hillary, though, for this decision. I say we need a third party candidate or everybody turn to Bernie. I think Bernie would do fine.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:23 AM) You're thinking of the Trib Cubs' beat writer. Gonzalez with a Z. Well, at least Abreu had a couple of decent at-bats (robbed homer and another liner to RF)...but, yeah, he's got to be the 900 OPS version and not the mid 700's guy for the White Sox to really be a force. Keep waiting on the MUCH warmer weather for that hitting instinct to kick back in and for him to go on a tear where he carries the team on his back for 2-3 weeks. Carlos Sanchez shouldn't even be on the team...needs to be playing everyday in Charlotte or used as trade bait. As far as Quintana going against KC, you ONLY have to worry about Cain and Salvador Perez. Moustakas won't be in the line-up until Saturday, so that leaves Hosmer who has been hot but is a lefty, Alex Gordon (terrible so far, tons of K's) and Kendrys Morales (abysmal) that can hurt you. And you want to keep Dyson off the basepaths, especially late in games. The Royals' name players are capable of leading a sweep, since Sale is unavailable. I will throw up if Paulo Orlando beats us in any of the 3 games. I will be bummed if the Royals name players - Perez, Cain, Hosmer, Moustakas, Gordon kick our ass. KC wins minimum of two games. I will be severely pissed if Sox don't win 2 despite that prediction.
  23. Well it's time to get our first look at KC. Team has not resembled last year's team at all. Lot of errors. Pretty raunchy pitching staff. It would be very disappointing to get swept by KC (since Sale not pitching). Winning one would be a bummer considering the hacks they are pitching. I'd love to get 2 or 3 but Hosmer is still Hosmer and frankly he'll probably account for one of the three games by himself. Cain is still there and Salvy and they are White Sox killers. I'd say KC wins two or three of the three. I am hopeful after those 2 series against them last year when we finally got our act together vs. KC.
  24. QUOTE (soxfan85 @ May 20, 2016 -> 03:47 AM) Jeff is having a heck of a year thus far. Was Coop really the problem here (as some, as well as Coop himself has stated)? It is just disappointing that he did not perform like this for him hometown team. Could have used it last season and definitely this season. WTF. Jeff is pitching like an ace this year. In fact, this version of Jeff S is just what our staff needs right now. I repeat WTF? Coop is an acquired taste? The two clashed?
  25. Lexi has no homers at this late juncture for the Padres. 14 RBI. I have no idea what his defense has been like. Sounds like he's not producing squat.
