Florida won't trade Juan Pierre for Aaron Rowand. Colon won't be on the Sox and I wouldn't want to give up those 3 to get him especially when we won't be able to resign him after he is an unrestricted free agent after next season. They will either get Moyer, Byrd or someone else not as good as either of them IMO. However, in good humor, I realize you aren't serious in your post and so I commend your conservative predictions!

Buehrle doesn't deserve 7-8 mil a season. He deserves Barry Zito money or less, which is not 7-8 mil a season. He is about the same as a Pujols or Zito to me and neither is commanding that money yet. He needs to get 4 mil or so a season max to keep him happy now and then we offer him a big deal after his 5th full season. No way he commands 7-8 yet and if that's what he wants now, he can take a hike. No one with his tenure is being paid 7-8 million, case closed.

Valentin isn't a good shortstop, he's only a decent hitter, so basically, he's not worth much to us or anyone for that matter. Most Sox fans would love to see him go and I am in that category. He just doesn't do it for me.

I seriously doubt any of this is true. Even if it was in the paper, that really doesn't mean much to me. Hell, Peter Gammons said we could get Lidle for Mark Johnson. Was that true? NO. We have Maggs through 2004, so even if they do deal him, it would be when we fall out of contention next season, not this season. Anyhow, I think Maggs will remain with the Sox past 2004, so I'd like to go on record with the following statement: Maggs, Konerko and Buehrle will all stick around with the Sox for a while.

Are the Braves stupid? Spooneybarger is a stud who would've taken over at closer for Smoltz. I guess they are banking that Hampton is gonna be good, which I am highly skeptical of. Advantage: Marlins

Is publicly complaining about a contract, alienating teammates and fans what you call a leader? If so, Frank is our leader.... I'll take PK over the Skirt any day.

Peavy and Tankersly are more highly regarded than Perez, but both struggled last season. Here's the books on Peavy and Tank FYI. Strengths: Tankersley can throw four pitches for strikes, and most of them are nasty. He can reach the mid-90s with his four-seam fastball, and his sinking two-seamer arrives in the low 90s. Hitters can’t sit on his fastball because he has a mid-80s slider that was rated the best breaking ball in the Cal League. Strengths: One veteran Padres scout says Peavy is the closest thing to Greg Maddux he has seen, and Double-A Southern League managers seconded that comparison. Peavy puts the ball wherever he wants, whenever he wants. He uses a lively low-90s fastball, a slider and a changeup.

I don't want Juan Pierre at all. He had a terrible year last season despite playing in Coors and his stats would be even worse outside of Coors. I'd like to see the Sox just stick with Rowand and the current players they have. We need pitching before we need position players.
-
I'll take Oliver Perez, Dennis Tankersly or Jake Peavy for MJ as well. Lawrence would be good though.

Valentin has a few clutch HRs in his day. K-Layton hasn't had a clutch hit since little league.
-
I saw him this past summer and he looked decent but not above Jimenez by any means. However, he may turn out better than Willie.
-
Borchard isn't going anywhere, you can bet on that. Welcome, glad to have you.
-
I felt obligated to respond to this because it's not totally accurate. Our "wise, brilliant, etc." GM traded Aaron Myette I believe for K-Layton, we didn't sign him. I can't figure out what would be worse. Signing K-layton or trading for him. Either way, anyone who knows anything would know beforehand that he is horrible and a cancer in the clubhouse. Royce should take the salary the Sox paid him and split it between the Sox ticket owners who paid to see him hit .056 with a hit once every 17 games. I say the mods make a new rule: NO MORE MENTIONS OF K-LAYTON or you're off the board!
-
Where's the link from ESPN? Can't seem to locate it.
-
Any Sox fan who defends K-layton should be banned from this board for life and sentenced to life as a Scrubs fan. K-layton sucks and he always will! Here's to a fun year picking up garbage Rolls Royce.
-
I saw him twice last summer and didn't really care for him, but maybe he will turn into something decent. You never know, he could still turn it around.

Right now, Buehrle doesn't deserve more than a 3 year deal worth no more than $12 million. That is more than fair based on compensation guys like Zito and Pujols are currently getting. In a few years, we can talk big money with Buehrle but at least give him a considerable raise after his first two seasons.
-
No matter how you look at it, if we lock up the nucleus of Mags, Konerko, Buehrle, Crede and Borchard long term and add a solid arm, the Sox will be in good shape to win the Central for years to come. Look at it this way, once all of the Twins players (Hunter, Jones, Doug, Rivas, etc.) command more money, that team will be split up. I'd even like to see us maybe go after Hunter or Jones when they are ready to bolt the Twins cities. If the Indians lose Thome, write them off for a while. Tigers and Royals, well, don't even need to mention them. Neither has shown a commitment to win. I hope the Sox realize that if they can lock up those 5 core players, this team could dominate a weak division for a few years, maybe more.
-
Great move, although I'd like to see him and Mags signed through about 2008.
-
Old News, it was posted yesterday.
-
He may not throw out runners well, but he is by far a better defensive backstop than Paul or Olivo at this point. No one who knows baseball would question MJ's abilities behind the plate, although he doesn't have the greatest arm, he stops the ball and digs it well. $500,000 for a lefthanded hitting catcher is not bad, although he isn't a starter.
-
I've been informed that the Sox have signed Mark to a one-year deal worth $500,000. Just wanted to pass that along.
-
Meanwhile, Beane is out looking to move some salary (Cory Lidle to the White Sox for catcher Mark Johnson is a possibility) and add a center fielder if that player meets the Oakland criteria. http://espn.go.com/gammons/s/2002/1113/1460204.html Gammons has officially lost it. If KW did this trade, I would officially be a KW fan regardless of his past screwups. If Billy Beane did this trade, they should fire him so he can go to Boston.

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...sox%2Dheadlines Although I wouldn't totally be in favor of the move, Cory Lidle is a solid starter. I'd like to see us make a push for several guys though and then take what we can get instead of just targeting Lidle. Here's to hoping KW makes a smart move.

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...sox%2Dheadlines Pretty ignorant if you ask me. Hopefully he learned his lesson.
