I agree with Baggs and Beane on this one. whether you like what he said or not, it is what he honestly thinks, and whether you believe it or not, it will affect the clubhouse and create controversy. the thing is it shouldn't matter. a player shouldn't be afraid to play with a gay guy, but in the same token, why does a gay guy have to make it public? that is what i don't understand, who really cares if he's gay or not? does him coming out and telling everyone he's gay change anything? they are all baseball players, simple as that. who gives a rats ass if they are gay or not. if gay, keep it to yourself, if not, keep it to yourselves. I like how in a few days Doug Jones is probalby gonna retract what he said now and say he didn't mean it. if he feels that way, it is fine, that is how he feels, as do I'm sure 80% of players. all this personal crap should be kept personal.

it will be Stewart starting.

well, I live in the neighborhood

I couldn't agree with you more, I would've taken the pitch and wait for a more suitable pitch to go to right, BUT the pitch was hittable and Thomas hit it hard, it just so happens it was caught. either way, I don't think Valentin would've scored from third on Ordonez' groundout. either way, it was a good game, just unfortunate that we lost.
-
that's ok, but I really don't like "south side is dangerous" comments. this happened right in front of USC. I hope the cop is alright.
-
offense has been pretty damn bad, but as far as today. Zito, Bradford and Foulke.....pretty hard to hit. we had some hard hit balls that were cought, while the bottom of the order killed Colon. of all the games we lost this year, this one was the most accepting. not much you can do. need to win tomorrow though, Buehrle needs to step up big time.

game over. great game, bad result.
-
pretty bad at bat. Konerko jammed himself on three pitches. like he was diving in.
-
the game wouldn't be tied for sure. although Ordonez' grounder was slow, it was still towards third base and somewhat close to home. Bradford could've still gotten Valentin out at home. I got what your saying, he should be thinking right, but it was an inside pitch that was hittable. he either pulls it or takes it.
-
although your point makes sense, when a guy like Thomas reads a pitch like that and can make good hard contact, you can't really complain about it. he hit it hard, not much else you can say. 9 times out of 10 that is down the line.
-
great D by A's, not much else they could've done.
-
very unfortunate. a car hit a police officer who was guiding traffic by the park and took off. no word on the officers condition.

the Red Sox closer by committee is based on matchups. they'll use one guy for the ninth one game and another the next night, my theory is simply leave who ever is out there to pitch the ninth. you would usually bring in Marte to pitch the eighth and then pull him, well, have him pitch the ninth too. not bullpen by committee, it is simply a bullpen.
-
Koch isn't bad, he is just pitching bad. his fastball has gone from 96-98 to 92-94 and his control has been bad. he'll be okay
-
I don't think closers are useless, because teams who go based on matchups do tend to struggle. I think the problem is a manager will use a guy for one inning just so the guy can stay fresh enough and pitch the next night. so instead of giving two pitchers an inning a piece back-to-back nights, I would have one guy throw extra one night, and the next use the other guy.
-
I don't think it is overrated because it has developed into a neccessity in this day and age, but I think if a guy goes out and throws an easy 1-2-3 eighth inning to hold a lead, he should be able to stay in and do it in the ninth. I do think only certain players can come in and throw strictly in the ninth because the pressure is higher, but if you are in and productive, another inning won't hurt and won't be that much different mentally. I think the problem is too many relievers are thrown into this one inning a night rule. if I was a manger, I would designate 2-3 relievers each night and instead of doing 2-3 outs each, give them two innings and use whatever is left for the following day.
-
ummm, sox fans do the same thing. remember after we lost opening day? and for that matter, evey loss since then.
-
personally, since Koch is down, I don't see the Sox giving one person the role and I don't see them using one for the eighth and one for the ninth. all I'm saying is if let's say Buehrle goes seven innings and the Sox have the lead, I would throw either Marte or Glover in to throw both innings. I know people say closing is A LOT different than middle relief, but if a guy throws a 1-2-3 eighth inning, why can't he do the same in the ninth? I mean, he's already in the game and secured the lead in the eighth frame, why not keep him in one more inning? I say this because the way the bullpen is going right now, they gotta take what they can get. if they throw in Gordon in for the seventh and he gives up no runs, use him as much as you can the rest of the way, same goes for White, Marte and Glover. do this until Koch is back and ready, then set people in their roles. We won yesterday because Gordon threw 2 1/3 innings, Marte threw 2 innings today, lets just do this theory until things get in order. as far as Glover, people can doubt him all they want, he's a good pitcher and a good reliever for any situation.

if Koch goes down, which I feel is becoming more and more likely, I would split the duties between Marte and Glover and I think they would do fine, especially since Koch looks pretty bad right now. the keys to the pen are whenever a guy is giong good, LEAVE HIM IN. Gordon and White have been far too iffy this year to let them go one or two batters. if Gordon is pitching good, like he did yesterday, keep him in and get the most out of him, cause you have no idea if keeping him ready for the next day will do any good. same goes for White. If Koch goes down, it'll probably be when Wright is ready, so Koch goes on DL, Wright comes up and have either him or Stewart start with the other in the pen. Glover and Marte share closer duties with Wunsch, White, Sanders and Gordon doing the rest.

pinned it back up HSC.
-
hey HSC, usually we put a story up then unpin it shortly after. it is still on the board and on the site, just not on top. as far as your comments, we had no problem with that, you made a good point, but Manuel did say as I said in the story that Harris has a good chance of coming up after the Oakland series, which means somebody will have to go down, most likely Rowand. Manuel has expressed confidence in Rowand's ability, but he's also interested in Harris and can't possibly keep throwing Rowand and his .100 average out there.

the network is still young. the only sites that are established are all football and college football sites (I think they have a site for every college team) and there are six baseball sites (us, mets, cubs, phillies, braves and giants) basketball and hockey I believe will happen in time, but they are going one sport at a time.

hey guys, I changed the format on SoxNet a bit. nothing major, but just made the main story section a little different, similiar to how the old site had it. http://www.soxnet.net http://whitesox.theinsiders.com http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/cha/

I've never been an official JM backer, always thought he was a smart guy, just put too much thought into managing, but I may have to agree with everyone that if the Sox struggle, he should be canned. I don't think now is the time though. I mean, let's be realistic, the sox are at 12-10 and are going up against some big teams in the Twins and A's, so we can't just fire him before this. another thing is the fact that four of our losses came against a hot KC team. although they were considered a bad team going in, they've played some good ball, so we can't look at our 12-10 record and say it is unacceptable based on our schedule, because really, without the Royals games, we are 10-6, which is basically what you want to do against weaker teams.

I didn't know Heather, but you are more than welcome to write something. if you are going to do so, make sure you send it over ASAP and not hold it off too far info the month May.
