  1. What’s sad is most of us that have coached kids like this where a star level player thinks they don’t need to listen and can do what they want. Just sub out the parents making excuses and saying the player deserves what ever they want for the front office. As a coach you have to make a decision that could well get you fired while knowing not only do you have to do what is best for the team, but if no one else has taught the player values you have to try to. This is exactly why some coach’s who are great at fundamentals are horrible coaches and why others are able to win with lower talented kids that show up and play hard.
  2. Agreed, if he was not overpaid and was just used in the role he had previously the joy people have for him not being on the team anymore would be much lower. No hate here just happy they are going higher upside lower cost moving forward.
  3. I think each person’s wishes for this years team equals how most will feel about this move. If you are hoping they would spend everything in “their” budget to make a fringe run at the playoffs, this is a solid move. If you want to build for a World Series run a few years from now, this is blocking young guys getting reps and in theory spending future payroll. I lean more towards needing to rebuild but not with the current management which makes almost any move they make a negative. With that said I will always pull for them to win and hope this works out.
  4. My only hope is this is a case of a player saying I want to play in the field to get in the flow of the game and feeling that as a DH that is harder to do. I also hope this is a manager understanding the player and knowing it is a new relationship and is trying to help him see his path is mostly at DH, but in attempting to build a relationship is saying this is where your chance to play the field will be.
  5. Some of what you said has become a sad truth. There have been so many cases of false accusations and false denials that it is getting harder to give blind trust to either side even when you really want to. As a Bills fan I just watched this same thing play out with a rookie who was cut and police later decided not to charge him. Most everyone can agree if he did these things there is a long list of things he deserves. With that said the chance of him being able to change public opinion is so small even if truly innocent, the Sox really have no choice but eventually cut him. All any of us can really do is hope that the truth comes out in a court of law and whichever party is the victim, they find some peace as there is nothing that will ever be able to truly make it ok.
  6. Don’t forget the option, as crazy as we may think it is, that his agent is telling him he could get 2 years somewhere. Even if it is less per year, add in the buyout it could end up he thinks he will actually make more money by going into free agency.
  7. Does anyone know what they are actually making and how many hours they work on average during the season? I know Chicago is different than NC, but here most employees in these roles are considered part time which even if paying the current “fair” wage, would not get what the quoted employees appear to want. I think it is certainly a fair conversation to say what is the value to both the team and fans to have employees working these roles. I just would like to see what the average current wage/ benefits vs. what are they asking for. The article lays out the concern for people, but does not do a good job of giving the full story for people to consider.
