  1. Instead, we’ll watch Maldonado hit in the .100’s while paying him over $4 million.
  2. I don’t think it’s the greatest comparison. Altuve is old. He’s turning 34 in May. What team was going to jump to give him huge dollars if he became a free agent at 34.5 years of age? Instead, he was just extended for 5-years and $125 million dollars until his age 39 season, and now he doesn’t have to worry about the risk of injury or decline until he became a free agent in a year. He also gets to stay with the team he loves and possibly win another World Series.
  3. Getting Stassi for free made giving Maldonado $4.25 million a strange decision. May as well see what Korey Lee can do. He is going to likely hit just as bad as Maldonado but at least he’s still somewhat young and could maybe turn something. AAA at bats aren’t going to prove he is much of anything.
  4. Cheap minor league invites like these show why you don’t even waste a few million on some of the bums that Getz did. Save it up for one impact player.
  5. Agreed. I was surprised there wasn’t more to it.
  6. The Astros just signed Altuve to a 5-year, $125 million dollar extension. Hot off the Twitter feed.
  7. Sure, because he was a top prospect and he’s still young. However, people would still be deathly afraid of his bat never developing like it hasn’t so far.
  8. They should probably get a C and an incomplete. They replaced Stroman and I think they improved their bullpen a bit. They also added a 1B/DH. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they add Cody Bellinger and/or Matt Chapman eventually. Shota Imanaga Hector Neris Richard Lovelady Duane Underwood Jr. Michael Busch
  9. What’s worse — the fact that you just mentioned or that the biggest contract the Sox have given out was to Benintendi?
  10. He also wanted the Sox to sign Puig. Dude needs to look into a different career because he fails at baseball.
  11. That sounds about right, but the combined average .600 OPS isn’t going to be pretty.
  12. Am I crazy to say a guy like Witt doesn’t deserve this much money? He’s no Trout. His walk to strikeout rate is pretty bad and his resulting OBP is poor as a result.
  13. The bottom three of the lineup could be historically bad with DeJong, Maldonado, and Lopez likely down there.
  14. You only get on these lists by being terrible the previous year. ?
  15. The Sox have a decent amount of pitching but it’s questionable to say it’s all quality.
  16. No, but I don’t think end of the year elbow inflammation is a good sign of things to come after a one full season workload as a closer.
  17. The Sirotka trade was on January 14, 2001. According to Keith Law’s Wikipedia page, he was hired by the Blue Jays in 2002.
  18. Sirotka literally never pitched again in the majors. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/sirotmi01.shtml It looks like he signed a minor league deal with the Cubs after never pitching for the Blue Jays but he never made the team. https://www.ourmidland.com/news/article/After-Two-Years-Sirotka-Eager-to-Pitch-7068683.php
  19. No. Your vibe is wrong. He is the second coming of this guy…
  20. He’s going to turn into peak Adam Eaton and you are going to fall in love with his grindiness.
  21. But then we are looking at a Burnes-like return anyways.
