We can debate it … IMO, no one will give anything close to what Getz asked from the Reds. We can debate it after he’s dealt.

More biased bull crap…. Gibson pitched 193 innings, won 15 games, bailed the team out several times when the pen was gassed. And his FIP was 4.13. As opposed to his ERA of 4.73. Wait what …. The strong Orioles defense costed a pitcher more than half a run a game. But, he was awful …..you’re right. Even using FIP Cease (3.84) was only .29 runs better….. But, I’m puffing by quoting the stats okay ? …..gotcha

I guess you’d have to have a barometer for what that actually means. When the season opened Elias mentioned adding a veteran ACE. Later he mentioned a guy somewhere in the 1-3 range. I think that’s better than Gibson but Gibson isn’t just a 5th starter. He gave the Orioles innings, veteran leadership, and pitched some pretty good games. If I had to rank him I’d say he’s a solid 4th starter. I think Elias passed with his eyes on a bigger prize, perhaps he overestimated the market again. They sure did that last year at his own admission.

Indeed .,.. there is a mile between the rumored asking price from the Reds and dropping his pants. I don’t I’ve mentioned Getz dropping his pants.

Cease has some good numbers and 1 great season. His drop in FB velocity and high walk rate have me concerned. I’d still trade for him …I just wouldn’t overpay beyond what I think is his median production 3.75-4.25 ERA. I know what FIP says …. But I’m concerned over the stuff I mentioned. If he ends up being what he was 2 years ago it would be a major win ….but one I’m not counting on and it appears most/all the GMs in baseball. Otherwise someone would’ve mortgaged the farm by now to get him….imo

If it were my decision I’d give a lot for Burnes and extend him. Unfortunately it’s not and we have to wait for the ownership change to get out from under the Curse of Peter Angelos
-
Agreed …he needs to get every last penny of value. But, he’s had him available since the deadline. At some point he has to get to reality based on what he’s being offered. I have no idea what that is and what he will be dealt for. But, and I said this already, The Orioles held onto Machado too long and the return really suffered because of that. I suspect a lot had to do with the owner meddling. But still …. They could’ve cashed in 2+ years out when they knew they weren’t going to sign him. I believe that was decided when they wasted all that money on Davis and Trumbo.

Fuji is gone … Elias has done well with scrap heap guys, Rule 5, and minor trades. Especially in the pen….Hes added Webb, Fuji, Cano, Coulombe, C Perez, and Felix Bautista for next to nothing. Holt and our organizational development has had good success.

I respect Tony as the owner of the site. I’ve been a paying member for 20 plus years. I read his stuff on our prospects and rankings. I appreciate his effort and contributions. I believe some, believe some are biased, and disagree with some. Since you post at our site I know that you know the popular guys vs regular posters. Frobby is held in high regard there, and Sports Guy (you either love or hate him) and I see eye to eye on very little. You think he’s been obstinate here, he’s even worse there. He even speaks his mind to Tony. I have my opinions over there about the Os and Ravens. The latter is a constant struggle as I’m not the biggest Lamar Jackson fan.

I’m high on oif guys but have been an Orioles fan a long time. I’ve watched us draft a slew of potential TOR guys in the high 1st round only to watch most/ many not make the majors and the ones that did Bundy, Loewen, end up falling far short of being a ACE. I love that we’re loaded, love reading the system rankings, that the Orioles are #4 for MILB pitching on statcast. But none of that means diddly to me until that actually do it.
-
Say what you want …. I really don’t even want Cease. I’d sign Clevinger, Bieber or trade for Burnes, Valdez , or one of the Seattle guys if they are still available. I don’t think Elias needs to drop his pants to get a deal done. He needs to find someone that’s an upgrade over Gibson. You guys act like it’s Cease or bust and Elias should send Mayo, Kjerstad, Basallo, or (not sure if anyone here has brought up ) Holiday.
-
Sprinkle honey potion in Elias ears I guess. That’s just it …We can quibble here over trade pieces like the White Sox just made Mayo, Kjerstad, and McDermott that I can pretty much guarantee isn’t happening. Heres the thing ….Elias is obviously looking to move our MLB veterans, blocked prospects….guys on the 40 man 1st. He has to be…..So the first set of prospects would be Norby , Stowers, Ortiz as the shelf life is a problem. What we’ve learned as Orioles fans is Elias and Medal overvalue prospects. That’s why they laid a mammoth egg at the deadline. Fujinama was so inconsistent you had to strap yourself to the seat to watch him pitch and Flaherty had 1 watchable start. There are many guys he could’ve done better with including Cease. But, Texas was so hot that it probably doesn’t affect the outcome. I’m sure you guys can agree that his asking price is borderline absurd. I believe that he’d already be traded somewhere if that wasn’t the case.

LOL … okay

There great until their take doesn’t match your position….got it . Don’t care about websites or podcasts. Anyone with a little money, computer knowledge, and time can have either/both. And they aren’t outdated until a new one is published. If they publish a new one before games are played I’d are you that the current one is more accurate. If no baseball is being played why would they need to update it ….. except for internet clicks ….and people wouldn’t be happy if the updated list is a dupe. that said Ortiz only loses value if he is in the minors come April or not given a chance to prove himself. The value of his prospect status likely can only go down.
-
He’s clearly biased to the White Sox….I don’t know your posters here so if I’ve hurt anyone’s ego that wasn’t my intent. I’m not even saying that Schulz won’t be a better prospect or even MLB player. He just isn’t now ….. He’s a 20 years old kid in A ball. So theres much risk …injuries, falling short of expectations….s%*# happens. Ortiz is ready and there is a pretty high floor. Is there risk? Sure but not nearly as much.
-
IMO Kjerstad ends up a bat first COF, 1B, or DH. He’s rated at 45 speed by MLB and didn’t look overly impressive in limited. Since we are talking prospects discussed here, Cowser didn’t look great in the OF and I think he has 0 chance to play CF regularly in the bigs.
-
Ok the White Sox land is great …. Great team talent …Great Farm….Great Leadership. Our farm system is ranked #1 just about everywhere. That’s after graduating Westburg, Rutschman, Henderson, Bradish, Kremer, Hall….should I keep going?
-
How is it outdated? It was the fall rankings and the spring games haven’t started yet. I’m not a professional scout or service and neither is anyone here.
-
They just updated it the fall. He will graduate from the list this season whether it’s with the Orioles or somewhere else.
-
Just another worthless biased post
-
Schultz is not in MLBs top 100. Ortiz is number 50. I’d prefer to go with a nonbiased opinion over a White Sox fan,
-
By the ranking systems he’d be your #2 prospect immediately. I think he has a pretty high floor. His glove will definitely play and there for he’s at least a utility INF. Most of the guys in your top 30 will end up sizzling out (not hacking on your system it’s a reality with most prospects) If he hits .725 OPS plus he’s extremely valuable at SS for you or in trade if/when Montgomery pushes him off SS. It’s great to have 19 year old phenoms ….Teams can overvalue them because of the luster….both will end up be nothing. You don’t like Ortiz as a headliner …. noted
-
Noted you don’t like Ortiz If Ortiz were traded to the White Sox and hits a .725+ OPS he would be extremely valuable if not for any other reason than his trade value. So Getz could decide that he will be too old for your rebuild. It sounded like he wasn’t planning on a long rebuild is that your understanding? How has his clock started …he got a sip? It would depend if he’s a better player defensively. Urias could certainly play at a high level at 2B or 3B. A manager would be delighted to have multiple excellent defenders. Also Ortiz and Montgomery are both prospects. My point is there is no guarantee Montgomery is a hit. He could fizzle, be mediocre, or just an average major leaguer. The same is possible for Ortiz and pretty much every prospect that they’d get in a Cease deal. Again, if Ortiz hits .725 plus he’s not less valuable playing second. Any GM who be interested in obtaining him would know he’s a SS. Again banking on Montgomery as a sure thing is optimistic but also a bit naive. Based on what we know he’s unlikely to be the second piece. I acknowledge again that you don’t want him as the headliner. But, it’s also possible that you don’t get a higher ranked player in the Cease deal.
-
He’s 25 ….one of your posters said he was 27 …..Geez talking about spinning it. I’m not here to fight with you guys. You guys obviously don’t like Ortiz. Noted …Thanks
-
Is that a given? 22 year old prospects in A ball have all the luster in the world but for most the luster will dull.
